Not all brushes are the same!

You are sure to have a classic steel brush in your tool kit. Such a DIY all-round brush is practical and has many areas of application, but it can be much better with little effort:

The file cleaning brush is particularly suitable for removing chips and strongly adhering metals such as: copper, brass, bronze and aluminum.

2. The rust eraser brush

Toptul tool for scooter riders

We got a large delivery, so the popular ones TOPTUL tools are available again.

TOPTUL tools for scooter riders

Scooter Center TOPTUL shop

TOPTUL has been manufacturing high-quality tools for over 20 years and is absolutely unbeatable in terms of price / performance. TOPTUL products have been in daily use at Vespa, Lambretta & Co. for years and are always convincing.

The finely subdivided toothing of the ratchets is just one example. The massive and robust design with 72 teeth achieves a stitching of only 5 degrees (1/72 turn). This means that you can work precisely and without repositioning even in very tight spaces with little travel for the ratchet.

TOPTUL tools of course meet or exceed the current standards such as DIN / ISO / ANSI. The in-house quality control is very strict and is expressed, for example, in the individual measurement protocol enclosed with each torque wrench with regard to the measurement accuracy and the release behavior.

From our own experience, we can recommend TOPTUL products to every “intensive screwdriver” with a clear conscience.

These are the highlights from the video:

  • Socket wrench set (ratchet case) -TOPTUL 1/4 ″ - 4mm-14mm + bits - 49 pieces
    Article no.: GCAI4901

And the sets are nice, like this one:

  • Screwdriver - screwdriver set -TOPTUL Pro Series- 20 pieces
    Article no.: GZC2005
  • Seeger ring pliers set -TOPTUL- 4 pcs
    Article no.: GPAQ0401

Deliver Mission with Lambretta TV 175 and Vespa GTS in Bangkok

Travel report Thailand, Bangkok 2018

It's January 2021 the lockdown has just been extended and tightened. The presence in the shop is restricted by the obligation to work from home. And we miss a lot of what makes our lifestyle fun. No runs, no nighters, no weekenders, no races and also no barley juice sextets with friends in the workshop. Cazzo! Sometimes it feels like there's nothing left but Covid.

The other day we were discussing our travel activities for the during our Skype lunch break Scooter Center. We have already done quite a bit and mostly it ended up sweaty and dirty or with a well-groomed hangover on long journeys back in the van on the highway.

One of the ultimate highlights of all trips was the visit to Bangkok in 2018. We have already been to India and Vietnam and have looked at dealers, producers and visited LML several times. The plan for Bangkok was similar. There are plenty of dealers and we wanted to do cold acquisition with classic handle cleaning. And also get a better feel for the scene there, about which we admittedly knew little. With the little bit that we knew, it was somehow clear to us that the basic tenor of the western hemisphere “all copycats there” could not be right. To anticipate it and to spare one or the other a long break from reading: Seldom met such passionate scooterists who are so far ahead and live the whole thing!

Buddy Seat Lambretta Garage

Our first stop after landing was a visit to Buddy Seat Lambretta Garage. An incredibly cool workshop with frame and fork straightening benches on an incredibly high level. We had to give up our attempt to get there on our own, unsuccessfully. Even a taxi driver could only call us at Buddy Seat help. He then came to us to pick us up. And what a start! Hardly two hours in the city and we are escorted by a Lambretta TV 200. Not a bad start to the seven day business trip. The language barrier was unfortunately very high and the Lambretta talk was successfully conducted with hands and feet.

Lambretta Thailand Cafe

Before we start to get bored in epic breadth:

That was our second stop Lambretta Thailand Cafe, in which the Lambretta Thailand store of our very good friend Show is located. He speaks perfect English and took care of us for the rest of our stay, giving us insights that we would have gained without him. Thank you, Show !!! At least for Philipp - maybe even for Ulf - he made a business trip a more than perfect vacation.

Deliver scooter parts in Bangkok with Lambretta TV 175 and Vespa GTS

In addition to our daytime entertainment at the dealers to be visited showed us Show pretty cool places. Places that showed us how passionate and obsessed the Thais are with Vespa and Lambretta. One day we were even allowed to come along Show and Lert Deliver scooter parts on Lambretta TV 175 and Vespa GTS in Bangkok.

The collectors we were allowed to visit cannot go unmentioned. That was really big cinema that we were offered there. And we are always amazed when we look at the pictures.

Ratchada Night Market

Another highlight and a definite recommendation for every Bangkok visitor is the Ratchada Night Market. A place with a couple of little Lambretta shops, lots of vintage car shops, vintage things and clothes. Cafes, bars, including an old American gas station (dismantled, moved over and reassembled in the US) and loads of other things to see, eat and drink.

Hose 3.00 10

Vespa & Lambretta Smallframe Tube 3.00 x 10 bgm PRO

With the new bgm PRO hoses, we decided in favor of one better quality and higher security for a very high buty content and therefore for a own tube size for tires up to 3.00-10 and 90 / 90-10 = Vespa & Lambretta Smallframe .

Other hoses with a lower butyl content have more flexibility due to a higher rubber content. This allows you to serve a larger range of possible tire sizes (up to 130 / 90-10), but the major disadvantage is poorer airtightness and puncture resistance.

Our bgm PRO hoses are made according to our specifications especially for the needs of Vespa and Lambretta scooters manufactured. Of the Butyl content is over 55%, that makes them extremely airtight and absolutely reliable. The high butyl content makes the hose more expensive to produce, but the result justifies the effort! Nevertheless, we offer this high-quality hose at a great price:

Assembly instructions assembly Assemble tube and tire

TIP: Our bgm PRO scooter tubes can be used in many vehicles with 10-inch tubular tires. When assembling, insert the tire on the bead with assembly paste and dust the inside of the tire with talcum powder. The assembly paste ensures the correct end position of the tire while the talcum minimizes the friction of the tube.
This maximizes the safety and service life of the hose. Instructions for installing Vespa tires

Lambretta exhaust test Big Box Reso racing exhaust

Lambretta resonance exhaust and Big Box prototype test

A Lambretta exhaust test: the new and upcoming Lambretta Big Box is currently in production. A delivery date is unfortunately still unknown.

Exhaust test on the Scooter Center Performance test bench

The Lambretta exhaust systems in the test

Before we sent the final sample to Spain, the new box was put through its paces again. Lambretta exhaust test: Another prototype box from our friend Chalky from Replay Scooters and JPP  came directly to the test bench:

  • bgm PRO BigBox Proto
  • JPP box prototype

The following resonance racing exhaust systems competed against the pits:

  • the TSR Evo,
  • the JL3 and
  • in MB3

And all three Reso systems did better against the speakers than we would have expected!

The Lambretta exhaust systems

The Lambretta engine

The test engine was constructed as follows:

Result & conclusion of the test

Nice and clear to see how good the box is from the start Performancebut also with plenty of torque scores in comparison to the 'racing exhaust systems'.

This is exactly what makes the bgm PRO boxes so nice to drive. There is always enough power available without having to struggle with gear connection problems or having to turn the gas like crazy to get things going.

The moderate consumption values of the engine concepts with the bgm boxes are another advantage, apart from the original look and the pleasant background noise. Another outstanding feature is the protected fastening system with adjustment options in both horizontal and vertical directions. This allows tolerances and, above all, spacers used to be compensated for different strokes and connecting rod lengths.

Lambretta Lui test stand

The boss has come up with something: Lambretta Lui dyno days!

From the very beginning - since 1992 - the Lambretta has been a fixture in our company Scooter Center. Much has changed in almost three decades. In the 90s it was mainly the GP and, if necessary, other Series 3 models, now the entire range is available from Series 1 and 2, the cardan models and right up to the Lambretta 'Smallframes' * more popular than ever.

Grade the small Lambrettas with 50 cc displacement were until the appearance of the 75 Casa Lambretta cylinder Completely useless at the beginning of 2009 due to the extremely modest driving performance.

CASA LAMBRETTA 75 cc- Lambretta Lui 50 cylinders

Ulfs Lui Lambrettas put to the test

We took the soft lockdown as an opportunity to put part of Ulf's Lui collection through its paces. We were particularly interested in how the 75 cc Casa cylinder against the original Innocenti 75 cc beats.

And were surprised at how good it was 75 cc aluminum cylinder with Nikasil coating.

Im Performance chart In the blue corner you can see a completely original lui 50 C. The performance curve with 2,1 HP "peak" performance you unfortunately have to look for at the height of the torque curve of the two 75s.

The green curve with 4,5 HP at around 5.500 rpm was delivered by an original Vega with an SH20 carburetor.

The red curve is a 75 series Casa engine. The cylinder was fired with the 15 SHA carburetor kit (main nozzle 68). A special feature of the engine is the exhaust of the 75 models, which is unfortunately not available and is very popular.

"AROUND HALF AT THE BAR"

" AROUND HALF AT THE BAR" is an organization of scooter riders for scooter riders and their families.

In the 80s, a youth movement from England spilled over to Germany, which culminated in the 90s. "Mods", "Scooterboys" or generally "Scooterists" meet with their Vespa and Lambretta scooters at scooter meetings, the scooter runs. Usually more or less organized in scooter clubs or alone, these international runs are best approached on a scooter.

With Northern Soul and Ska music, the all-nighters are partied until the morning. During the day you pass the time with repairs to the mostly tuned scooter, take part in the corso and amused or embarrassed at the fun games. At the custom show, the best vehicles will be awarded in various categories. During this very intensive time, intensive friendships develop among the Scooterists and they are very well networked internationally.

These scooter get-togethers still exist today, albeit a little smaller and the wild boys are now often more or less wild family fathers. Modern means of communication and social media simplify contact considerably. Good and bad news are spread quickly today.

So was the horror news when Markus R. left his wife and newborn child in a deadly wildlife accident on his Vespa in 2015. Spontaneously the Scooterszene organized a fundraiser for his wife and daughter. Vespa and Lambretta friends helped quickly and unbureaucratically.

A tragedy that can suddenly hit anyone through no fault of their own. In the course of time, a few more scooter drivers had an accident. Some never will "AROUND HALF AT THE BAR" being…

one in the Scooterszene well-known slogan, which leaves an exact time open to arrive at a Scooter Run or Niter and to meet friends and like-minded people on site.

In the boom of this youth movement in 1992, this emerged from this scene Scooter Center. Meanwhile one of the world's oldest and largest "roller shops". Here the scooter driver gets everything he needs. ALL YOU NEED - The portfolio ranges from spare parts, tuning, accessories, tires, tools, helmets and literature to fan articles / merchandise.

At half past the Christoph Lambretta Shopper bar

Northern Soul Fist - symbol of the Norther Soul scene

The black fist has its origin in the USA, as a symbol of the resistance of the Afro-American population during the independence movement of the 60s and 70s.
Black gloves were also popular with Northern Soul dancers in the 70s during their acrobatic moves on the dance floor. In addition, black leather gloves for scooter driving were probably very popular with the mods. So it became a symbol of Northern Soul events and a symbol of the scene. It quickly adorned posters and flyers of the events as well as patches on bags and jackets of the supporters of this youth movement. To this day it is a symbol for Northern Soul lovers and therefore also very popular among scooter riders.

Scooter Center ALL YOU NEED since 1992

With the brands bgm and MOTO NOSTRA that is Scooter Center also manufacturer of high quality parts, mostly made in Germany. This has supported it for almost 30 years Scooter Center of course still clubs and scooter meetings today and supports the scene.

The Scooter Center The team was enthusiastic about the idea to help the club. So he spontaneously entered into a sponsorship and that Scooter Center supports the association "AROUND HALF AT THE BAR“Now with its infrastructure such as logistics, online shop, payment systems and store sales and also passes all income directly on to the organization.

With the purchase of "AROUND HALF AT THE BAR“- products can Scooter Center Customers support the association in its work. So far there are shirts, hoodies, coasters, stickers and safety vests. The safety vests are particularly close to Daniel Drescher's heart - or "Everell", as he is called in the scene. Everell has "AROUND HALF AT THE BAR“Accepted and organized the association with heart and soul. He is happy about the partnership with the Scooter Center: "The Safety vests are great, because the scooter driver can easily and cheaply increase his visibility and thus his safety in road traffic. Happy Birthday German Scooter Forum

I still remember the year 2000 and the start of the GSF very well; At that time I had a small private website (www.scooterists.de) with appointments, run reports, technical tips and a guest book that was widely used.
At some point René wrote to me:

"... let's move the communication: to the new forum ...",
"New forum?"
"Yes, there is something news: GSF - German Scooter Forum"...
Madness, this is now 20 years ago!

German Scooter Forum / Screenshot 2002

German Scooter Forum / Screenshot 2002

Largest scooter driver forum worldwide

According to its own information, the GSF is the oldest and largest forum for Vespa and Lambretta scooters in Germany ... and worldwide.
The online community has grown rapidly and today there are over 66.000 members who discussed, asked, made fun of, annoyed, praised, insulted and informed in almost 360.000 topics in over 5 million posts, sometimes more and sometimes less seriously.

Supported by Scooter Center

The Scooter Center has supported the GSF from the very beginning and of course also actively uses it as a support forum. Several times we became best Scooterselected.

Interview with “Mike” Michael Betz, German Scooter Forum

Michael Betz German Scooter Forum

Who started the GSF?

I am the father of the GSF, Michael Betz. At that time I was still an active member of the “Low Rider Scooter Club”, later an enthusiastic ESC and long-distance racing driver / team boss with several championship titles.

I have increasingly withdrawn from the ESC racing scene since the birth of my children. I'm still fully involved in the long haul, but only as team boss from 2021 due to an accident. We are by far the most successful team at the VTR24h race in Zuera / Spain. No team has won there twice, not three times, but we've already won four times… plus a few podium places and mostly at the same time with the fastest race lap. We are absolutely at the top with 60 opposing teams, but that's another story.

How exactly did the GSF come about?

The nucleus for the GSF came into being in December 2000, when I was doing an internship in Berlin and had a lot of time on the side. At that time I set up the Low Rider SC homepage and didn't want to use a guest book as it was then. It bothered me that the already few scooter riders on the internet were spread over many guest books and the entries always disappeared downwards and no clearly structured and continuous discussion was possible. I wanted to create a central platform and knowledge database. That is why I used a forum that every club could integrate into its own club homepage.

At that time you could not access the forum directly, but first had to go to one of the club websites. The own domain “germanscooterforum.de” came years later.

The first time was pretty tough, people weren't that much online yet and back then there were already big names like “The Scooter Driver Guest Book”, which we first had to assert ourselves against.

We are celebrating 2020 years of GSF in December 20!

Who will help you with the flood of questions and contributions?

While I mainly take care of the technical side of the forum myself, there are some selfless supporters who manage to keep the content side of the forum running. Without these guys, the whole thing would not be possible. You invest many hours, nerves and heart and soul in the cause, which deserves the highest respect. So many thanks to my moderators Thisnotes4u, Gertax, t4., Subway, pfupfu, reusendrescher, sähkö, Florian, Vic and all alumni. Without you, the GSF could wrap up!

How many members does the forum currently have and what statistics are there?

As of the end of 2020, the forum had a good 66.000 members, making it the undisputed oldest and largest platform forum for classic scooters on the internet. The unimaginable number of well over 5 million contributions alone speaks volumes.

Is Facebook & Co. a threat to the GSF?

We have of course noticed that a lot is happening on the social media platforms on the subject of classic scooters. But it is still true that a recurring, in-depth discussion of technical topics and looking up knowledge is only possible in the GSF. Similar to the above-mentioned guest books from the year 2000, the contributions at fb disappear into nirvana after a short time.
Furthermore, I am firmly convinced that the hard core of scooter riders continue to predominantly move in the GSF, while more commercially oriented people or only sporadically interested people tend to stay on the other platforms.

So I look forward to the future calmly, the right people are still in the right place.

How can you support the forum?

At this point I would like to thank all supporters of the forum. Without you, the GSF would no longer exist today.
If you want to know how you can support the GSF:

ESC RESIN RING 2020

We are sponsor of the ESC - European Scooter Challenge.
On 25.-26. September invited the KR Automation Season finale 2020 to the Harz-Ring in Aschersleben.

.

The training day

On the day of the training (Friday), you could train in bright sunshine and the whole day there was the opportunity to get to know the track or to improve your own lap time.

The race day

When it got light on Saturday morning, it was already wet and cold (12 degrees C.). After the heated battle in Cheb, a complete contrast program. The drivers' meeting took place under the newly designed canopy, where it started raining and didn't want to stop all day. Free practice started first and gave the five classes the opportunity to adapt to the general conditions. In the "one-size-fits-all" classes, which consist of two Smallframe- and one Largeframe-Class exist in which the scooters must be equipped with uniform engine components in order to enable the same conditions and exciting duels as possible.

It was especially exciting again in the big one Smallframe-Unit class, the K4.

Albert H. from the G16 racing team was the fastest man in the rain and was in first place ahead of Achim. Both gave everything and unfortunately fell. Achim's racing Vespa almost found itself in the men's toilet after the fall. After pulling his scooter out of the china again, he was able to finish the race in fourth place. In races 1 and 4 Robert fought hard with Albert and sometimes there was more water to be seen than the driver. Shoulder to shoulder through the wet curves! With the better end for Robert, and with it the championship in class K2.

In the K5 it was no less exciting:

Background: Valentino in first place in the championship standings in the K1 class, followed by Felix (-5 points) and Moody (-15). Three runs with 48 points each for the winner are still to be run.

Start run 1: After a great start, Valentino led the pack into the first corner, but had to let a strong Moody pass in the second corner. From the 2rd corner Moody slowly pulled away, followed by Valentino, Sebastian N., Christian K. etc. Felix didn’t really get going and had to fight some space fights in midfield, which made the train inaccessible for him made. Moody pulled away until the 3th lap, but then Valentino increased the pace and slowly but steadily caught up. (Meanwhile about three seconds between Moody and Valentino). Moody wanted to increase his pace again, but this led to a fall and threw him back to P5. Valentino took the lead, followed by Sebastian N. with a gap of about a second and was the first to bring it safely to the checkered flag. P6 for Sebastian, P2 for Christian K .. Moody had to give up completely one lap after the fall due to a technical ignition defect. Felix did not get beyond a 3 place. With this finish, Junior could no longer be ousted from P6 in the championship standings.

Run 2:  After another bombshell start, this time from pole, Valentino did not give up this lead until the finish line. Again closely followed by Sebastian, who couldn't catch up as close as in the first run. This time the gap was almost 1 seconds. Again in 2rd place followed Christian K. Moody could no longer show the speed of the 3st run and training and landed on P1, Felix on P6.

Run 3:  Seemed almost a bit boring, but the same as race 2, great start, another start-finish victory for Valle. It should be mentioned that a) Sebastian got off badly at the start this time, was involved in tough duels and had to put up with an 8th place. Moody also struggled and ended up on P5, which cost him 3rd place in the championship standings with the failure in the first run. And who will move up to P3 in the championship? Albert, who crossed the finish line in race 1 on P7 and race 2 on P5, and secretly secured the final podium in the championship with a hard-fought P3 in run 3.

At the end there was a 40min endurance race, in which only K5 vehicles were allowed to be used, and 2 drivers each (pairing was drawn). After 15 minutes the driver could be changed. The Achim and Valentino team won this new edition.

bgm PRO shaft sealing rings Viton® - Simmerrings Vespa and Lambretta

WHY SHAFT SEAL MADE FROM FKM / VITON®

The material FKM (fluorocarbon rubber) is extremely heat, friction and fuel / ethanol resistant. Current premium fuel in Germany already contains an admixture of up to 5% ethanol per se.

In other countries the ethanol / alcohol content is even higher. Conventional Simmerrings / shaft seals can swell or soften when they come into contact with fuels containing ethanol.
The bgm PRO FKM / Viton® shaft seals, on the other hand, offer one perfect protection. In addition, Viton is different from conventional (blue) NBR shaft seals twice as temperature resistant, has one very good gas impermeability and is also very resistant to aging.

WHAT ARE THE SIMMER RINGS SUITABLE FOR?

An engine equipped with bgm PRO FKM / Viton® shaft sealing rings can therefore also be operated with E10 fuel (10% alcohol). The high quality brown Viton® * sealing material is permanently alcohol-resistant and also for engines with suitable for high temperatures and high speeds.
bgm PRO FKM / Viton® Simmerrings are therefore suitable for all engines, regardless of whether original leave or tuned high-performance engine.

For reasons of environmental protection and in favor of maximum flexibility of the sealing lip, we deliberately refrain from additionally applying PTFE / Teflon® * to the sealing lip.

BENEFITS OF BGM PRO OIL SEALS!

The BGM PRO shaft sealing rings offer a double seal as an additional feature. All shaft seals that seal against the atmosphere have a so-called dust lip. This is positioned in front of the actual sealing lip and keeps dust, dirt and moisture away. This further increases the already good stability. SINGLE & AVAILABLE IN A SET The BGM PRO FKM / Viton® shaft seals are available individually and in sets for almost all Vespa and Lambretta engines.

"BGM BRINGS A CLASSIC BACK TO THE MARKET"

Even that Scootering magazine are our new ones bgm tires not escaped. In the current issue you can find a nice report on our classic tires, here they are compared with the legendary MICHELIN ACS, and justifiably so.

bgm Classic tires Michelin ACS

“BGM BRINGS A CLASSIC BACK TO THE MARKET

bgm has launched a new tire that is a look back at the old days of scooter riding, but with modern technology. Simply referred to as Classic, the tread pattern is similar to that of the Michelin ACS. For those who can't remember: the ACS was one of the best tread patterns ever designed for the scooter and offers good handling characteristics not only on dry, but also on wet roads. For years it was standard equipment on both the Vespa and the Lambretta. Even today, original copies of the ACS can fetch huge sums of money as owners want that retro look.

Michelin destroyed the molds as early as the late 1980s and so it was banned in the history books. Fortunately, BGM brought them back to life with the company's new design. The Classic has a speed of up to 150kmh / 93mph which is very impressive. This is due to a reinforced carcass that not only improves stability at high speed but also when cornering. Cornering is even more supported by the V-shape of the pro? Le compared to the U-shape, which enables more surface contact as the lean angle is increased. Using a revised blend, they're super grippy in all conditions. That means not only that owners of standard machines who want the classic tire look can use the bene? T, but also those with tuned engines. The Classic is made in Germany and is available in the traditional size 3.50-10. These tires are now sold in the UK and many dealers already have them in stock.

BGM RELAUNCHES A CLASSIC

bgm has launched a new tire which is a throwback to the old days of scootering but using modern technology. Simply labeled the Classic, the tread pattern is similar to that of the Michelin ACS. For those that can't remember, the ACS was one of the best tread patterns ever designed for the scooter, not only giving good road-handling properties in the dry but also in wet conditions. For years it was standard issue equipment for both the Vespa and Lambretta. Even today, original examples of the ACS can fetch huge sums as owners want that retro look. Michelin destroyed the molds back in the late 1980s and so it was consigned to the history books. Thankfully BGM has brought it back to life with the company's new design. The Classic is speed-rated up to 150kmh / 93mph, which is very impressive. This is down to a strengthened carcass which not only improves stability at high speed but also when cornering. Cornering is aided even further by the V shape of the pro? Le compared with the U shape, which allows more surface contact as the lean angle is increased. Using a revised compound, they are super grippy in any conditions. Not only does this mean that owners with standard machines who want that classic tire look will bene? T but also those with tuned engines can use them as well. The Classic is made in Germany and available in the traditional 3.50-10 size. These tires are now being distributed in the UK with many dealers already stocking them. For more info: www.scooter-center.com
