Torque scooter

Tightening torques for screws and nuts on the scooter

How tight should I tighten a screw or nut on the scooter?

Here we have compiled a list of the manufacturers' recommended tightening torques. *

After fest comes off!

It has probably happened to everyone before, the workshop wisdom: "After fest comes off!" - KNACK and it has already come true.
No problem if you've only destroyed a nut or stud, it can usually be easily replaced. It starts to get annoying when you don't have a replacement.
Thread repair: It gets really annoying when you destroy a thread in the motor housing! This is often time-consuming and usually expensive, especially if it cannot be repaired with a threaded insert, for example. Before the housing has to be replaced or welded, there is often a Thread repair with Weicon Glue possible.

Screw loose?

In addition to too tight, there is of course not enough tight! Too loosely tightened nuts or bolts can be dangerous. You don't even want to think about what can happen if wheel nuts or brake discs come loose. Loose carburetors, intake manifolds or cylinders can quickly damage the engine. Depending on the area of application, there are self-locking nuts or threadlocking !

Always one after the other!

In addition, there is also the even tightening of screws and nuts to be taken into account. Everyone knows that from changing tires, here, for example, tightening is done crosswise to ensure an even fit. In the case of engine housings and cylinder heads, for example, stresses caused by unevenly tightened stud bolts should be avoided at all costs. There are even components that need to be fastened in a certain order. Please follow the manufacturer's instructions here.

Order of stud bolts Vespa engine

Wrong!

Right-hand thread? Left-hand thread? As a rule, nuts and bolts are tightened clockwise (to the right) and loosened counterclockwise (to the left) = normal right-hand thread. But there are also exceptions such as Lambretta pole wheel nut and left mirror: often with a left-hand thread.

Fixed!

For many purposes there are special tools, puller and particularly Holderwithout which parts usually cannot be removed at all. You will find the tool for your scooter model after the vehicle has been selected in the vehicle list:

Vespa special tools

In the case of tight connections, penetrating oil such as WD40!

We recommend working consistently with atorque wrench  and compliance with the recommended tightening torques. We offer various torque wrenches for small and large tasks:

PMT Tires scooter tires for scooter racing

Made in Italy: PMT Tires

The Italian tire manufacturer PMT (Pauselli Model Tires) has been around since 1990. Originally, the company produced tires for RC cars and the mini-bike racing series popular in Italy. Since then they have also made tires for motorcycles and above all Racing tires for scooters develop, they quickly secured a top spot among the racing drivers' favorite tires. the PMT tires are available in perfect mixtures for the various soil, weather and temperature conditions.

PMT Tires

PMT Tires Rain & Intermediate

Slick, mix: hard

The slick with a hard compound is ideally suited for routes with high asphalt temperatures and heavy use from many alternating curves and braking maneuvers. The hard mixture is the most abrasion-resistant and can therefore be used very well in endurance / long-distance races. The warm-up phase for the optimum operating temperature (~ 80 ° C) is significantly longer with this mixture than with the "medium" or "soft" mixture.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Slick, mix: medium

The medium bridges the gap between the hard and persistent as well as the extremely well adhering but also quickly wearing soft mixture. The medium thus covers a very large area of application. Its optimal operating temperature is ~ 75 ° C and, like the hard mixture, requires a longer break-in period than the soft mixture to get up to temperature.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Slick, mix: soft

The soft PMT mixture offers full grip even at lower temperatures. Accordingly, it wears out quickly at higher temperatures and then no longer offers its full grip level. In return, it very quickly reaches its optimal operating temperature of 70 ° C.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Slick, rain

With the rain slick PMT offers a new interpretation of an intermediate. An intermediate with a slick profile was created here, based on the rubber compound of the pure rain tire. Ideal for changeable weather with equal proportions of wet and dry sections of the route.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Rain racing

The rain tire from PMT plays in the highest league of rain experts for the circuit.
Whoever has mounted this tire needs a good excuse if it did not work out with a good placement ...
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Drag Race

PMT's drag race tires are ideal for all quartermile engines.
No grip is lost here and all of the power is transferred to the asphalt without slipping.
But that also means that there is no mercy for clutch or transmission ...

The key spiral - a classic rediscovered

I had one - everyone used to have one and it was 'cool', the key spiral! And with this video my heart opens up:

New spiral key ring from MOTO NOSTRA by Scooter Center

We scooter drivers, mods & scooter boys quickly discovered this practical spiral for us: because the different key types for ignition lock, steering lock and / or luggage compartment lock can be flexibly but securely connected to each other.

With this super lanyard, all keys form a unit, but do not interfere with each other during operation: the ignition key and steering lock / overhead locker key remain in their lock and are connected by the key spiral. Each of the two keys is quickly at hand and the paint is protected by the flexible PVC material.

We have the key coils in 15cm-60cm (the 15cm version can be stretched to 60cm) and 30cm-100cm (the 30cm version can be stretched to 100cm) length. The colored versions are translucent, ie they are colored but still transparent.

Provided with a key ring on both sides.

  1. TIP: Also ideal for e.g. house and car keys on the pants to fix!
  2. TIP: The tape can be shaped as desired with a hair dryer, e.g. if the angled end should be straight.

TranzLight turn signals

Blinker system that uses the new TranzLight technology (TLT, patent pending). This progressive development approach is not limited to the simple miniaturization of turn signal housings but creates the light directly via a crystal-like plastic body. Only precise optical CAD calculations and the most modern manufacturing processes enable this new design and its function.

The light flow required for the TranzLight principle is generated by the intensiLED® process developed by motogadget and consists of three important components:

  • Selected high-performance LEDs with maximum efficiency and a total output of 7W with a service life of more than 50.000 hours
  • An IC controlled constant current regulation clocked at 330kHz
  • A special collimator optic that couples the light from the LED precisely into the plastic body

The discreet aluminum housing is only used for stable attachment of the glass body and the integration of control electronics and high-end LEDs.

Of course, the housing is CNC-manufactured, schwarz eloxiert and finely inscribed by laser.

The handlebar end indicator is very flat and appears neutral and inconspicuous due to the transparent disc. Thus, it fits many styles and a wide variety of scooters and even on motorcycles, quads ...

The flasher can be operated like any common LED flasher with load resistors or with all of our load-independent flasher relays.

Benefits

  • Absolutely unique, independent design and functional principle
  • Hardly noticeable on the handlebars when switched off
  • Extremely bright light to the front, clearly visible light to the rear
  • State-of-the-art high-performance LED technology, IntensiLED
  • Electronic voltage conditioning and safe protection electronics

Installation instructions for handlebar end indicators

The m-Blaze disc is suitable for mounting on handlebars with an inner diameter between 14 and 21mm. Use the following sketch to select the mounting elements required for your handlebars: Motogadget-led-blinker-disc-installation-instructions_manual_

The m-Blaze disc must be mounted horizontally, the angle of the handlebar inclination must be in a range from 0 ° to a maximum of 9 °. Before installing the indicator, clean the inside of the handlebars. Only a clean and grease-free surface enables the turn signal to be securely attached. For the cable exit, drill a 3mm diameter hole in the underside of the center of the handlebar. Alternatively, a hole can be drilled to the left and right of the switch fittings. The hole must be very carefully deburred inside and out. No tensile forces may act on the connection cables. This can tear the cable out of the turn signal housing or chafe the handlebar exit point. Make sure that the cable is long enough and pay attention to the steering angle. It is recommended to protect the cable at the exit point with shrink tubing.

DAMAGE TO THE CABLE INSULATION CAN CAUSE A SHORT CIRCUIT AND A CABLE FIRE, THAT IS RISK TO LIFE.

Use the blinker marked “L” for the left side of the handlebar and the blinker marked “R” for the right side of the handlebar. Guide the turn signal connection cable into the tube opening and from the inside through the 3mm hole to the outside. Use a stiff piece of wire for this. Tighten the M8 nut on the indicator lightly so that the rubber piece spreads open a little. The indicator is pushed into the tube, the rubber piece must be in contact with the tube wall. By turning the indicator clockwise by hand (do not use any tools!) The piece of rubber in the handlebars opens. Turn the turn signal until a considerable amount of force is required to release the turn signal; the motogadget logo must still be visible from above. If the rubber piece on the inside of the handlebar does not expand, the indicator is pulled out, the connection cable is brought back to its original position by turning the indicator housing counterclockwise, the rubber piece is more pretensioned by tightening the M8 screw and the assembly process is repeated.

THE CONNECTION CABLE MAY BE DAMAGED BY TURNING TOO FREQUENTLY IN ONE DIRECTION. DO NOT TURN MORE THAN 4 TURNS IN ONE DIRECTION IN ANY ASSEMBLY ATTEMPT. BREAK IF STOP THE TRIAL AND TENSION THE RUBBER TIGHTER. TURN THE CABLE BACK TO ITS STARTING POSITION IF YOU TRY TO REASSEMBLY.

Connect the red connection cable of the left turn signal with the positive lead of the left turn signal circuit and the red cable of the right turn signal with the positive lead of the right turn signal circuit. Connect the two black connection cables to vehicle ground. The supplied crimp connectors are used for this. Test the turn signals for their function. If the flashing frequency has changed, you need an electronic, load-independent flashing relay.

THE TURN SIGNALS ARE PROPERLY MOUNTED AND COMPLY WITH THE LEGAL REGULATIONS IF THE TURN SIGNALS WITH THE MARKING “L” FOR THE LEFT SIDE AND THE TURN SIGNAL WITH THE MARKING “R” FOR THE RIGHT SIDE HAS BEEN BUILT IN AND ON BOTH SIDES THE MOTOGADGET LOGO IS VISIBLE FROM ABOVE.

Vespa PK S with edge protection on the leg shield frame

We have it: Edge protection for Vespa PK, PK-S, PK-S Lusso, PK ETS

The Vespa PK S models and their big sister, the Vespa PK ETS, have now achieved cult status among Vespa Smallframe Models. These scooter models have become sought-after vehicles.

From Piaggio, the list of original spare parts still available for the first models of the PK series is getting shorter and shorter.
In addition to the peculiarities such as

  • Tacho,
  • Tank and the
  • Handlebar cover,

sure is that Edge protection for the leg shield one of the heavily sought-after spare parts. With the PK S, this edge protection is a design that you want not shares with her later successors, that makes this part even rarer!

The rare spare part was not available for a long time

Now, after almost a year and the testing of many samples, we can again offer the edge protection of the PKS / ETS models in a very good quality and fit.
The available colors are: silver (like the original) and new: also in black.

The Vespa PKS is independent when it comes to assembling the edge protection, because the edge protection is riveted to a step rail end piece.
We can offer the required end pieces of the step rails in different sets.
The following variants are available:

  • Edge protection silver, without material for fastening 3332778
  • Edge protection black, without material for fastening 3332779
  • Silver edge protection, including tread strips and rivets 3332778KTS1
  • Black edge protection, including tread strips and rivets 3332779KTB1
  • Silver edge protection, including step rails, step rail end pieces and rivets 3332778KTS2
  • Edge protection black, including step rails, step rail end pieces and rivets 3332779KTB2

Easy construction:

You will need a drill / drill press, and one Blind rivet pliers

  1. The heads of the blind rivets of the front, outer step strips must be removed by drilling. As a result, the end pieces reveal the old edge protection. The remains of the blind rivets remain in the old end pieces, so the end pieces, which are usually already damaged, are unfortunately no longer usable.
  2. The new edge protection is coming from above, at the same time on both sides in the bead of the leg shield down.
  3. The two curves above are hooked into the bead.
  4. The new edge protection is hooked into the new tread strip end pieces at the bottom and the tread strip end pieces are fastened with blind rivets.
  5. Finished :-)

KR Automation

Vespa KR-Automation tuning products

Felix Richter's KR Automation company was founded in March 2010 and mainly dealt with robot automation, hence the name.
Vespa racing and Vespas in general have been playing a major role since 2003. All products go through long tests before being sold. At KR Automation, no product matures with the customer. Felix is known for his Vespa “El Sidney” and his “Lambretta Barracuda”, the we have already presented here to have.

Motor housing including shifting cable adapter (from KR Automation) -LML SF125- usable for V50, V90, PV125, ET3, PK S, PK XL, Motovespa PK75 (intake 3-hole, circuit two cables)

The engine housing has the stable crankshaft needle bearing of the PK ETS models. This means that the ultra-stable “ETS” type crankshaft can be used. This has a crankshaft stub diameter of a whopping Ø25mm.
If the housing is to be used with 50-112ccm cylinders, we also offer a corresponding crankshaft with 43mm stroke (125cc = 51mm stroke).

The intake manifold has the modern 3-hole mounting method. Here we offer corresponding intake manifolds with 3-hole attachment and at the same time the correct manifold course for the V50 / PV / ET3 frames.

Components that differ from a conventional one Smallframemotor with two shift cables (V50, PV, ET3):

  • XL2 shift fork
  • Crankshaft with Ø25mm alternator-side crankshaft stub, type "ETS"
  • Intake manifold with 3-hole attachment

PERFORMANCE

The SE125 enclosures have a long rotary valve sealing surface (42mm). As a result, the inlet can be enlarged very much, making them ideal for high-performance tuning based on rotary valves.

CYLINDER

The cylinder base bore is 61,5mm, therefore suitable for all standard and common tuning cylinders (not Falc, Quattrini SP09 etc.). So it doesn't have to be spindled.

DELIVERY

The housing is delivered without bearings, without nuts, without cylinder studs but with all silent blocks / silent rubbers. In addition, the shift cable adapter for two shift cables is already assembled.

Engine silent block set -BGM PRO Touring- Vespa PK 50-125, PK 50-125 S, PK 50-125 XL bgm Pro Item no .: BGM7954

New engine silent block sets for Vespa PK

Motor Silentblock Vespa PK? A red Vespa PK 50S was my first Vespa. Between us: I've had almost everything on the scooter in my hand and swapped - just that Motor silent rubbers I never noticed! Why also? Back then the scooters were quite fresh by today's standards.

Today, 30 years later, the PK models are among the classic cars. Vehicles are being restored and now you should also have a look at the engine silent blocks!

We offer you optimized sets that are also easy to assemble!

Vespa PK Motor silent block rubbers Original, Touring & Sport

With the new bgm silent block sets we are expanding the product range in the area of high-quality and innovative spare parts:

Easier assembly

There are two different silent rubber systems for the PK models:

Type 1: Two inserted silent blocks, each with a short vulcanized steel tube (like the BGM silent rubbers)

Type 2: A long tube and pressed-in rubbers that are secured to the tube by means of a locking ring.

The BGM silent rubbers are suitable for both types. With Type 1, the old rubbers can simply be removed from the housing (levered out). With type 2 the caulked retaining rings of the pipe must be removed, the pipe must be pushed out and the rubbers must be levered out. Then mount the new BGM PRO rubbers dry, (some talc can help here) push them back into the housing and, if necessary, re-insert them with a hammer that does not kick back.

In the past, you might have to go to the “specialist workshop”, which had special tools to pull in the new PK motorized rubber seals. If that was too expensive for you, you somehow removed the old silent blocks and then installed the V50 silent rubbers, but they were too long and not ideal for the PK engine. With the two-part motorized silent rubbers from bgm, you can now assemble the perfect silent rubber compound for your area of application yourself!

This is an advantage of the bgm silent rubbers: the split design of the silent blocks simplifies assembly considerably.

Fuel tap wrench Fuel tap tank tool Vespa bgm PRO "Multi-Tooth"

How does the fuel tap wrench work?

And what do I need this tool for anyway? In almost all classic Vespa models, the fuel tap is inserted into the tank from the outside / below and into the tank from above Screwed inside the tank with a nut. To remove the Vespa fuel tap, you need a fuel tap wrench.

Fuel tap wrench for fuel tap nut in the tank

This Fuel tap wrench for Vespa has been a moderately working tool so far. Packing and turning the flat nut in the dark interior of the tank was usually quite a fiddly job.

Our remedy is now new fuel tap wrench from bgm in a cranked version. The bgm PRO Multi Tooth tool uses a modern multi-tooth instead of a simple open-end wrench. This makes it quicker and easier to grab and turn the nut of the fuel tap.

Simple, simple. good!Uwe, Scooter Center Technology

Fuel tap wrench -BGM PRO Multi-tooth 32mm- Vespa

Vespa fuel tap wrench from bgm

Suitable for all Vespa scooters with a fuel tap nut, wrench size of 32mm, and a tank opening larger than Ø35mm. This also applies to all vehicles

  • removable tank coverl to (Vespa PK XL, PX Lusso, T5 etc.) as well as the vehicles with
  • large hinged lid (All Wideframe, Sprint, GT, GTR, TS, VNB, VBB, etc.).

So this tank key does not fit with tanks with a small hinged lid (Smallframe V50, 50N, V90, 90 Racer, PV125, ET3, Motovespa).

HINTS:

  • The Vespa models VNA, VBA (up to frame number 81256), VNB1-2T and the VGLA (T4 / Touren up to frame number 017409) use a smaller fuel tap with a fastening nut with a wrench size of 22mm. This BGM PRO fuel tap wrench does not fit here.
  • The Vespa models Rally180 / 200 and GS160 / SS180 use a tank with strongly offset filling opening. Here please Fuel tap wrench BGM 3036 use.

bgm PRO tubeless aluminum rims for Vespa classic scooters

The solid aluminum rim from BGM PRO enables tubeless tires to be fitted, as is common in the motorcycle sector.
It replaces the standard rim without any further changes.
The resulting advantages are:

  • 40% weight saving
  • Safety plus through double hump
  • Better responsiveness of the chassis
  • Good concentricity
  • I got caught

WEIGHT REDUCTION

The weight saving compared to an original Vespa PX steel rim is 600 grams. In addition, there is a weight saving of about 370 grams due to the hose that is no longer required. The unsprung masses are thus reduced by almost one kilogram per axle (over 64%). The responsiveness of the chassis improves noticeably.

SAFE

With a double so-called "hump" in the rim bed, the tire is always safely guided in the rim. Similar to the latest runflat technology in the automotive sector, the air can slowly escape if a foreign object (nail or similar) is inserted without the tire slipping into the rim well. The vehicle comes to a controlled stop. In addition, the rim has recesses between the screw-on points. This improves the cooling of the brake.

APPROPRIATE

The BGM PRO aluminum rim fits as a 1: 1 replacement for almost all classic, manually operated sheet metal rollers such as:

  • Vespa Smallframe: V50, 50N, Special, SS50, SS90, V90, V100, PV, ET3, PK50-125 (S / XL / XL2)
  • Vespa Largeframe: Vespa PX, T5, Sprint, Rally, GT / GTR, TS, LML Star, Deluxe

PHB carburetor

PHB carburetor

The YSN PHB carburettors correspond to the original in almost every detail. We currently have the following models on offer:

  • Carburetor -YSN PHBH 28BS- AW = 34mm - without negative pressure / oil connection
    YSN8568
  • Carburetor -YSN PHBL 25BS- AW = 30mm - without negative pressure / oil connection
    YSN8565

With the manufacturer YSN we have a very good and reliable manufacturer at our side who continues to produce the legendary PHB carburettors for us. The quality is absolutely comparable to the Italian original and the parts are 99% interchangeable. Only the throttle slide is guided via a slightly longer centering pin in the carburetor. If the Dell ”Orto throttle slide is to be used, this aluminum cast pin can simply be withdrawn a little.

Buy the PHB carburetor here

Advantage of the PHB carburettor

A big advantage of the PHB carburettors is their easy and good tunability as well as their insensitivity to changes in weather. The PHBH shows quickly and clearly whether the mixture is too rich or too lean. A Mikuni or Keihin carburetor usually runs surprisingly well, even if the tuning is too lean, which unfortunately can quickly manifest itself in a Klemmer.

PHB carburetor spraying

Most scooter engines have the following basic spraying for the PHB carburetor series as a good starting point proven:

PHBH 28

  • Mixing tube: AV264
  • Needle: X2 or X3
  • Idle jet: 55
  • Main jet: 120-145
  • Slider: 30 (fat) or 40 (leaner)

PHBL 25

  • Mixing tube: AQ264
  • Needle: D26
  • Idle jet: 60-65
  • Main jet: 95-105
  • Slider: 40 (lean)

If problems with the fuel supply are suspected, it is advisable to convert to a larger float needle valve (# 250).
