It all started with the decision to choose an exhaust for the 1000km trip of our GTS Keyless 2023 and we went for the Malossi.

We took the opportunity to stop off in Bologna to visit Malossi on the way to the Pontedera Vespa World Days, where I was able to see what is behind the brand, and it is impressive, all the scooters were beautifully presented in an enviably clean workshop, and walking around the huge site we even picked up our order on the way to Germany, making us feel at home.

visiting @malossispayt #malossi #gtsmalossi

There we were invited to their event, the timing of which coincided perfectly with our return of the VWD to Germany, this time in Modena. The event took place on 21.04.2024 at the Autodromo di Modena and consisted of two main parts:

Miscela Day

Some of the things we found at this meeting were the Dyno, dj set, Contest of ugliness and arrogance where the only rule is to be yourself, a simulator: Moto trainer and a pit walk to make the speed experience closer, the shop, food and drinks, and even a tattoo area with flash designs by Malossi.

It's amazing how the atmosphere of speed and performance is in the air, an event that left us amazed and with a wide participation, from children riding their bikes on the rear wheel, to the most professional on the track, to those who bring their uniqueness scooter designs to show them off to the connoisseurs.

Miscela Day program

Malossi trophies

in the 37th edition, we had the opportunity to live closely the experience of a scooter race with Joe Shack, all the tension before and after the race, the physical and mental preparation and the support of a great team, which together, will define results in the seconds that these races last.

In the boxes you could also find it Malossi Racing Academy with the Italjet Dragster 200cc.

in short, an event that speed lovers have to experience once in their lives.

The first February weekend of the year is an absolute must for everyone Real Scooterist at. The Scooterist Meltdown in Kalkar is an all-inclusive weekender in a class of its own. Depending on the package you book, it ranges from five days to just one nighter or the big custom and dealer show on Saturday.

Rhine Switch Old Switch Event

A good friend of the house: Rhine counter VC Cologne  celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2024 and Kris, the president, invites us to a big event!

In 2014, three Vespisti from the Rhineland in the Alps were sitting in their van at night on the way home from the Vespa World Days in Mantova, Italy, and were so enthusiastic about the huge Vespa meeting that they quickly launched a new Vespa Club - the Vespa -Club RheinSchaler Cologne! A club for Vespa enthusiasts from Cologne and the surrounding area.

After ten years The three boys have now become over 100 Vespisti and Scooterists. Colorful, diverse, open, crazy and Rhenish-friendly, people have been meeting on Sundays at 16 p.m. on Cologne's Rudolfplatz since the beginning to chat and plan trips.

Vespa joy straubig

When it comes to a good cause, celebrations in December have a special meaning, and that's how they met Vespa friends Straubig to the mulled wine regulars' table and Harald talks about it

On November 25.11.2023th, XNUMX they met Vespa friends Straubing in the Hubertushalle in Straubing for our mulled wine get-together.

The occasion was perfect because Raphael Knespel was holding the Vespa parts market in the Hubertushalle at the same time.

After the Vespa parts market, we started with our annual mulled wine get-together for the benefit of the Bettina Bräu Foundation

Around 40 accompanied members helped to make the event a complete success.

In terms of culinary delights, there were plenty of donated Käsekrainer, veal sausages and Iberico pork neck in a roll.

In advance there was of course thematically, mulled wine, punch and mulled wine with a shot.

The remaining excellent catering service took over Stefan Bauer from the Hubertus Hall.

Auction Vespa Friends Straubig

A big highlight of the evening was the auction. Here everyone was waiting for the highlight from SC. Leg protection against the cold was particularly popular.

Markus Tom Rösner emerged as the winner from the bidding battle. Tom was very happy.

The net proceeds from the event are included 750€.

This sum will be transferred to the foundation.

I thank the house Scooter Center for this great commitment.

Vespababbo Rhine switch

The has been organizing since 2014 Vespa Club RheinSchalter Cologne the so-called Vespa Babbo. A tradition from Italy in which Vespisti dress up in Christmas outfits and with decorated Vespas to spread Christmas magic in cities and towns while also handing out small gifts and collecting donations for charitable causes.

This year the Cologne VespaBabbo took place for the 10th time. At the same time, this year's VespaBabbo anniversary heralds the club's anniversary in 2024. The Vespa Club Rhein Schalter was founded in 2014 by three friends on their way back through the Alps from the Vespa World Days in Mantova (IT) and now has around 100 members in Cologne and the surrounding area.

VespaBabbo prices

For a donation there was a Christmas package consisting of a bag, chocolate lice, SC stickers and a ticket for the raffle. You had the chance to win one of 23 prizes, which were awarded by, among others Scooter Center, Cologne Industries, Cologne schnapps from jörg's wine shop and some club members were sponsored.

In addition, there were 3 special prizes awarded by the club's executive committee:
1. For the most beautifully decorated Vespa
2. For the most unusual costume.
3. For the best combination (best costume and most beautiful Vespa)

Most creative costume and best combination

And since we sell accessories, we decided to stay true to that concept and dress up as Christmas accessories, which earned us the Best Costume award. ;)

Best decorated scooter

This Vespa, which, judging by its license plate, came from Monschau, was the sensation of the whole event and understandably won the prize for the most beautifully decorated Vespa.

Donate

The Cologne VespaBabbo collected around 1.000 EUR for all participants, this time from the Cologne club Association for bittersweet Cologne eV., will benefit. Zartbitter campaigns against sexual abuse of boys and girls.

Have fun and spread pre-Christmas cheer in the city!

Around 80 classic scooters took part in this Switch Edition tour, including two Apes who accompanied us. The route was organized so that the group covered the most important Christmas markets. And thanks to the donation, each Vespa received a bag of chocolate Santas to spread sweet Christmas cheer along the route.

We would like to thank the VC Rheinwechsel for allowing us to be part of this fun and great campaign.
St. Nicholas Day trips like this have inspired many clubs and we look forward to taking part in the “Moped X-Mas Tour” to participate.

Moped X-Mas Tour

Now New!

There are only two original ignitions for the Lambretta lui and Junior series: one for all models with 50 cc displacement 4-pin ignition system from Dansi and for the models with more displacement (lui 75 and J100-125) one 6-pin Ducati ignition.

The power output of both ignitions is very manageable: the Dansi ignition is included 6V / 18 watts and the Ducati version at least with it 6 V / 33 W .

The 50s models have - in a negative sense - absolutely minimal electrics, which usually don't even have a brake light. An upgrade is impossible due to the non-existent performance of this Lambretta alternator.

Comparison of the power output of the ignition systems

Ignition Ducati 6-pin J 100, J 125                  6V / 33W

Ignition Ducati 6-pin lui 75                        6V / 33W

Ignition Dansi 4-pin J 50, lui 50                  6V / 18W

Ignition Vape lui 50-75, J 50-125           12 V / 110 W

vape 80 watts, consider 2.000 U / min

vape 110 watts, consider 6.000 U / min

This means that the new lui and Junior Vape ignition is a more than contemporary update 12V and 110 watts Perfomance. In addition, there is the unbeatable advantage of everyone electronic ignition: There are neither capacitors that burn out nor breakers that are subject to wear. Maintenance work and a weak ignition spark are a thing of the past.
Due to the very high ignition energy at low starting speeds, the vape ignition offers better starting behavior. The CDI is suitable for all original and tuned engines with a static ignition timing.

Thanks to the 12 magnets in the magnet wheel and the 9 coils on the ignition base plate, a high current output is available even at low speeds and the flickering of the light when idling is no longer present. The maximum output of the alternator is 110 watts.

This means that the models with 50 cc displacement can also be perfectly upgraded to the features of the larger models such as high and low beams and a brake light. Additional consumers (USB socket, exhaust gas temperature and the like) are of course no problem either.

The ignition magnet wheel is one-piece, manufactured to a high quality and balanced. The fan blades are CNC milled. The design of the fifteen fan blades has been optimized for higher cooling performance. The weight of the magnet wheel with fan blades is 1,2 kg.

Weight of the pole wheels in comparison

Flywheel Ducati 6-pole (Innocent number 00840134) J 100, J 125 1,35 kg

Polrad Ducati 6-pole (Innocenti number 00860038) lui 75 1,35 kg

Polrad Dansi 4-pole (Innocenti number 00860030) J 50, lui 50 1,4 kg

Polrad Vape with CNC milled fan blades lui 50-75, J 50-125 1,2 kg

Here we have put together the essential components - in addition to the ignition - for converting the on-board electrical system from J 50 to J 100 / J125:

A special feature of the J50 models is the limited space available with the original 50 rear light. A flat LED universal rear light can be the solution here.

When upgrading the lui 50 to lui 75 electrics it looks like this:

The lui 75 terminal board is - so far - only available for the original contact ignitions. When converting to electronic ignitions, all plug connections should be bridged together so that regulated 12 V is available across all of them.

Only green must not be combined with the other colors; here the engine is switched on and off.

The 6 volt horns/buzzers can be retained on all models. However, it is important to avoid honking in the future, otherwise the component will be damaged.

Novegro 2023 parts market

It's the end of October and in just a few days it will be ready Parts market in Novegro 2023, Milan. Always a nice trip to look for parts and scooters.

Audacity loses!

A week before, an unpleasant report made the rounds on Facebook and in some Whatsapp groups.

In the Bologna area, two Lambretta lui 50s are stolen from Roberta and Simone. Pictures and the frame numbers of the white and turquoise Lambretta are doing the rounds.

After heavy rain from Thursday to Friday November 3rd, the gates to a well-soaked Novegro area opened. Suddenly there is a bit of a hustle and bustle between the usual suspects: Lambretta nuts. It quickly turns out that a delivery truck with several Lambretta scooters was also loading Roberta and Simone's lui scooters in the parking lot. Sam from Lambrettafinder, Marco from Rimini Lambretta Center, Carlos from Swiss Tony Scooter Spares, Jon Gilbert from JG Scooters, our friend Dean Orton and a few others clarify the situation and inform the rightful owners, Novegro security personnel and the police.

In addition to the lui scooters, the corresponding bags, license plates and keys were also found in the B*****'s delivery van. So if that's not enough, another stolen Lambretta turns up in the form of a Model D.

Happy end! Scooters are back and hopefully the brazen idiot will get the appropriate punishment!

Unclear ownership number two

Some people have noticed a yellow lui 50 on the market. A color reserved for the Innocenti family's vehicles. On the steering head the sticker from Vittorio Tessera's Casa Lambretta. Most people thought nothing of it or thought the Lambretta was a reproduction, fake or whatever.

It later turns out that the scooter actually comes from Vittorio's Museo Scooters & Lambretta comes from. Vittorio loaned the lui for an exhibition to a friend who died in the meantime and his widow sold the lui without knowing the ownership structure.

But here too, a happy ending is in prospect. The buyer and Vittorio are in contact with each other and last week Vittorio bought a perfectly preserved lui 50 in orange to swap.

Here are a few more impressions from Novegro!

“210.000 km and 100 countries made (by now) by VESPA since September 2017 NON STOP”. This is how the social media of Ilario Lavarra welcomes all the Vespa fanatics who dream of long-distance trips. But long-distance here gets another huge meaning, briefly explained: The entire world!!!

He celebrated the 100th country of his journey on October 2023, and sent us this beautiful postcard, so we wanted to pay tribute to him by telling a little of the story of a #RealScooterist, in this case: the traveler! ;)

“To my friends from SC, who are supporting this Grand Tour around the world on a Vespa! A big hug from this incredible country, my #100 non-stop”

Ilario Lavarra

"First" long trip

"21 Americhe" - solo trip on an old vespa-

How do we meet Ilario?

As thousands of kilometers turn out to be thousands of friends, and I was one of the lucky ones to cross his path :)

Back in 2010, when he was on the middle of his journey: “21 Americans” on a 40-year-old Vespa (Fast Sprint), 82.000 kilometers from the Arctic to the Antarctic and back (here the video). He entered Colombian territory, and for us, he was one of the first travelers that visited us. As it usually happens, we all gathered to hear the countless stories that he accumulated along with his kilometers and our friendship was set.

7 years later, was my turn to make a bigger Vespa trip, unfortunately not in my Vespertine (my PX over there). But thanks to him, we rode through Modena, Bologna, Verona, and Rome. That's how I knew his plans for a new trip, but this time a “little farther”…

Current trip

"Le Grand Tour'" - The longest journey ever on a Vespa

“Le Grand Tour" was the name given to the educational journey that became fashionable in the late 17th century. An excellent name if you ask me, because there is no better way to know the world but to experience it! and he describes it perfectly like this:

“It is a personal journey of knowledge across cultures and latitudes. And this knowledge makes me happy.”

He is now in the 2/3 part of the trip. Europe and Africa is already done! and now he finds in Bhutan, the country number 100 as part of the Asia and Oceania phase, later he will repeat America.

The Vespa chosen could not be another of course that a Granturismo, the GT 1968  with the name: Ardimentosa

The first 100.000 km

and as in a small summary of his 100 thousand km, ilario tells us the wonders he has seen:

“I love this Vespa, called Ardimentosa, which is gliding over the world meter by meter. Slowly, joyfully. And me with her. On the icy Scandinavian tundra with the aurora borealis lights. On the autumn warmth of the African deserts of Western Saharan. On the dirt roads of Bissau and Conakry. On the Atlantic coast to Nigeria. On the Cameroon war and the rainforests of Gabon and the two Congos. On the colors of Namibia's deserts and on the reefs of South Africa. On the burned savannahs of the eastern part, on the villages of huts and on the banana plantations of the thousand hills. On the warm silences of lava stone of the Horn of Africa, on the Coptic monasteries, on the pyramids. On the fairy chimneys and on the peaks to almost 5000 meters of Central Asia. On the snow of the kingdom of Persia and now on the gulf in front of the Arabian peninsula. One hundred thousand kilometers. Ole!”

A new chapter - INDIA

At that time, in India, Ilario was informed that Scooter Center was there some time ago making some buying for his ONGOING section and when some engine problems arose, he did not doubt to reach us. But what a surprise for both of us when I received his email, because he didn't know that I work here.

He has a philosophy of no sponsors, so he can travel free, but we responded, not as sponsors, but as partners, and the best way we can contribute to fulfilling his dream is with the parts he needs.

In the middle of the Indian jungle he sends me a message, tired of the hard trip:

“I am preparing to cross Tibet, I will leave from Nepal to get to Laos. As Tibet is a Chinese problem area, it will take me some time to get my visa.
In Tibet I will be driving for a week at about 5000m altitude, probably October/November.
The Chinese authorities want winter tires, compulsory in winter in Tibet.”

So we send him some other parts in need:

And believe me, India is not big, it is huge!!! INDIA IS A WORLD, the country with such a diversity and density of cultural, religious, ethnic, geographical aspects, etc. which in another country is IMPOSSIBLE to find. From Ladakh in the heart of the Himalayas at 8000m high, to the Buddhist Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim so close to Tibet, East India and its tribals with bamboo villages among mountains difficult to reach (that already seems to be in East Asia), to the Sickh Punjab and the infinite super populated plain of the Ganges, to the rural and the fascinating rural Hindu States of central India, and then the Muslim majority regions near Pakistan or Bangladesh, up to the high tea plantations of the Christian Kerala, to finally jump into the southern apex which is Kanyakumari. An infinite puzzle with billions of pieces different from each other, to enjoy one by one. Slowly.

We wish him the best of luck, although we know that he is surrounded by it thanks to the magic of the Vespa, his charisma and his wonderful story.

He will keep us updated on his journey. In the meantime you can catch up on his story with his videos and posts, which are not only amazing, but also entertaining.

you'll find the latest news of his trip on his website: Vespanda.com

While news for the more modern scooters is currently being presented at the EICMA, last weekend at the Mostra Scambio (November 3rd - 5th, 2023) there was long-awaited news for many Lambretta friends.

The lui 75 is by far the most complex Lambretta exhaust to produce, but also by far the one that works best on the lui models. (Resonance systems are left out.)

Lambretta lui exhaust – the structure:

And here again in a beautiful drawing from the classic:

In addition to the complicated interior, there are two heat shields screwed onto the outside and a chrome finish on the exhaust itself. An effort that is second to none and really makes reproduction a challenge.

Our surprise in Novegro was all the greater that two Italian manufacturers presented the exhaust as a reproduction.

The structure looks plausible:

We have ordered the systems and as soon as they have received their chrome bath, they will come to us and will be available in the shop.

The competing product from Tutto Lambretta was available for purchase and our exhaust is currently still in Dortmund. (Thanks Corina & Marco for the transport.)

As soon as the others are here, it will be put to the test.

A big thank you also to Dottore Markus for his translation skills in Novegro!!!

Stay tuned!

On Saturday September 30th the Lambretta Club Modena at its annual event –Lambretta & Extra Oil - Chapter VIII recorded a record number of visitors: over 170 scooters!!

Vespa Club Wiehengebirge

The Vespa Club Wiehengebirge celebrated its 5th anniversary and Marco Niehoff shared these great photos with us, which testify to the perfect organization of the event in Bissendorf,

“On July 08.07.2023th, 5, the Vespa Club Wiehengebirge eV celebrated its 100th anniversary with joyful company. Friends and keen Vespa enthusiasts from various clubs were warmly invited to this special occasion. The invitation was well received and more than 70 guests flocked to the event, over XNUMX of whom proudly arrived on their own Vespas.

For the first 50 scooters that arrived that day, there was an exclusive bag filled with attractive “Giveaways“. In order to have enough space for the event, we rented the DRK clubhouse in Bissendorf-Jeggen, which offered us generous space. An entertaining obstacle course for the fun games was set up in the parking lot. Here visitors were able to put their driving skills to the test and take advantage of the chance to win great prizes from our generous sponsors - including a high-quality Vespa helmet from the respected Schriewer company.

The obstacle course was given an additional pinch of excitement by a fully functional, old speed camera. After the visitors had completed the course, the speed camera offered the opportunity to take a souvenir photo if they exceeded a certain speed limit. For those who wanted even more snapshots of themselves and their Vespas, another flash unit was available that flashed along a marked route.

Another highlight was the Custom Show, in which each scooter was evaluated for its individual beauty and uniqueness. A homemade cell phone holder received the coveted trophy as an award at this show.

Of course, the physical well-being was also well taken care of. From bratwurst and delicious salads to tempting cakes and fragrant coffee – no one had to stay hungry. Given the scorching 35 degrees on this sunny day, our chilled soft drinks were particularly popular.

To live up to the spirit of Vespa, a refreshing 50 kilometer ride was organized at lunchtime. In case of emergency, a breakdown vehicle was available on the festival grounds, which fortunately was not needed.

After the exit, the winners were ceremoniously honored with generous prizes Prizes from our supporting sponsors. At this point we would like to thank all of our sponsors from the bottom of our hearts. You helped make this day an unforgettable event. Dallmann, Salon Dostal, The Village Shop, VGH, Small & Fine, Schriewer, Louis, SIP, Atelier Hartmann, Scooter Center.

A special thank you also goes to our valued visitors, the hard-working helpers, the speed camera collectors and the committed members of the DRK association. Without your support, this day would not have been able to shine in its full glory.

So this wonderful day, filled with lively petrol conversations and exciting activities, unfortunately came to an end far too quickly. Many thanks again to everyone who helped make this day an unforgettable experience.”

The Vesparaba 2023 of the Vespa Club Vitoria took place on October 7th with great success. Fito shared with us this great experience on the beautiful streets of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

This year's Vesparaba 07.10.2023 outing took place in Vitoria-Gasteiz on Saturday October 2023th, XNUMX.

Held by the organizer Vespa Club Vitoria with the kind support of the municipality of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Alava province. As well as that Vespa Club Spain.

After meeting at the “Plaza de la Provincia” and having breakfast, we set off with just over 100 Vespas and Lambrettas.

The approximately 100km trip during which we felt like we crossed several weather zones, fog, rain and bright sunshine, in and around the area around Vitoria-Gasteiz was very beautiful.

After the exit, we had the opportunity to enjoy a delicious three-course menu in the Zapirón restaurant as well as the draw and distribution of trophies (most beautiful Lambretta and Vespa in original condition, furthest journey, etc.) as well as the merchandising items that we received from, among other things Scooter Center have received to distribute,

At this point we would like to thank you on behalf of the club Scooter Center thank you.

We are really looking forward to more beautiful trips

Many greetings and always have a good trip

GP 200 electronic seat

Of the Lambretta dl 200 or called GP 200 in England there were roughly 9.400 units built. Unknown is the quantity of the dl and GP 200 electronics that left the factory.

In our history for every model, we can find this quote in the dl / GP model history section:

“But the ultimate improvement for the DL 200 was the introduction of an electronic ignition, which was developed in co-operation with Ducati. The DL 200 Electronic is easily recognized by a sticker on the legshields. The GP 200 electronic for the English market also has a specific seat. This newly shaped seat with its structured cover is a clear reminder of the 70s sports car interiors. Unfortunately no production numbers of the Electronic are known, as it was produced from 1970 onwards alongside the standard version with points ignition.”

Vittorio Tessera of CASA LAMBRETTA and MUSEO SCOOTER & LAMBRETTA fame takes a closer examination of the quantities of the dl and GP 200 electronic build in the brilliant:

A must read for any Lambretta nut!

Our red bgm CDI unit was meant as a homage to the original electronic ignition. But the seats for the Lambretta GP 200 electronic had always been rare as hen's teeth.

With a growing demand, we started to look into having these seats remade. Easy was to source the company to do that. Whom else to trust than our Italian artisans to have them Handmade in Italy.

The hard task was to get the project started with one good sample. Luckily we find help from our friend Martin Robinson from England who dropped off on his way to the Milano-Taranto Race not one sample, but three original seat frames and two seat covers. Now the detective work in England, Italy and Germany started and we looked into sizes, measurements, angles and materials.

We are more than happy with the outcome and can offer complete seats and seat covers directly from the SC shelf. We had them made with the factory original black stitching and a vintage version with white stitching. The original black cotton lisle fades out over the decades. Something we looked into earlier in the SC blog:
