Scooter travel blog India

This time our journey into the world of scooters took us to India. Many classic LML scooters are still produced here. In earlier times Vespa and Lambretta models were also manufactured on the old Piaggio production machines from Bajaj and Priya. In India, scooters are used as an everyday vehicle and are exposed to completely different demands due to the poor roads and paths. Nevertheless, it is also clearly noticeable in India that the tin scooters are slowly but surely disappearing from the big cities and are having to give way to newer two-wheelers. Many scooters are simply put in the corner and no longer used. Here is an example image of a Bajaj that has been lying in a front yard for years and is no longer moved:

What still shapes the cityscape are the auto rickshaws that are very similar to the Italian Ape.

However, a great modification has been made here, since in the large metropolises such as Delhi, Mumbai or Calcutta there is now a regulation that all public transport must be converted to gas-powered. As a result, the smog has been significantly reduced in recent years and even the 2-stroke engines only have low emissions.

Here you can clearly see the gas connection on the carburetor of the Ape engine. A really great thing.

More blog entries on India will follow shortly.
