Silicone engine gasket set for Vespa Largeframe 2-channel motors 1959-1969 from BGM PRO

The BGM PRO silicone engine gasket set is specifically suitable for engines of the so-called LargeframeModels between year of construction 1959-1969.
These Vespa models can be recognized by the detachable engine side hood (with rubber seal) and a carburetor, which sits in a closed box directly on the engine housing (not on the cylinder).

This new seal kit fits the following models:

  • Vespa Sprint150 (VLB1T)
  • Vespa GT125 (VNL2T)
  • Vespa GL150 (VLA1T)
  • Vespa Super125 / 150 (VNC1T / VBC1T)
  • Vespa VNB
  • Wasp VBA
  • Vespa VBB

Compared to the later versions with three overcurrent channels in the cylinder / motor housing, these motors have a slightly different hole pattern for the screw connection of the housing halves. The BGM PRO sealing kit is exactly for these old housing shapes produced.

The seal kit also includes specific seals for the float chamber cover, the carburettor originally installed on these models (SI20 / 15, SI20 / 17).

BGM PRO silicone seal kits consist of a 0,5mm thick, high-quality coated sealing paper (like Piaggio “green” original). In addition, the seals, which are always in contact with oil, have an already applied layer of silicone sealant. This ensures an increased surface pressure on the seal. In addition, the silicone seal also seals the cold engine much better thanks to the permanently flexible sealing compound. So the engine always stays tight and the oil is where it belongs and where it is useful.

Why install a short 4th gear in the Vespa?

The short fourth gear is installed to improve the gear connection to fourth gear and that works very well with the short 4th gear with 36 teeth!
The short 4th gear for Vespa PX engines makes sense for every requirement, whether for everyday drivers, tourers or racers.
With 36 teeth this is a gear one tooth shorter than the original fourth gear wheel of a Vespa PX200.

Short 4th gear Vespa PX Lusso Suitable for all transmissions that have a flat gearshift cross. These gears can be seen on the main shaft, which have a circlip in front of the gear wheels.

The middle segment on which the switch cross rests is at

  • PX old (until 1984, cranked switch cross): 5mm
  • Lusso (from 1984, flat switch cross): 6,5mm

The middle segments of the BGM gear wheels are larger (approx. 1/10 mm) and thus offer even more contact surface for the gearshift cross.

The short fourth gear can be ideally combined with the stocky longer 64 teeth BGM Pro primary gear. The overall ratio is in connection with a 24T clutch pinion significantly longer, Gear jump three to four but shorter. In the table below and the graph ** you can see how the difference works. With the longer reduction, you can already travel at a good speed for city or cross-country trips in the lower gears at a very low speed. In gear 4, the combination enables speedy travel at a reduced engine speed and the ability to reach a higher top speed.
