What happens to a Vespa that has crossed a whole continent in 22 months and driven 72.000 km with a full load - over 100 kg of luggage alone - over all kinds of roads?

We are always excited when someone shows up with a great adventure and see with great interest how they are prepared for this trip and are curious to see which parts can withstand the stresses best. Rarely do we get the chance to see the wear and tear of every part after a great trip.

Atze's adventure with Vesparicana is a very good example of this. He was with different people back then bgm Parts traveled and after this adventure and years later Jan visited us at SC to show us these parts.

Jan is the mechanic of Atze and his Vespa Elsi and he knows exactly which pieces deserve to rest. Like the bgm shock absorberthat was installed on Elsi. Due to the heavy luggage, the frame warped in the area of ​​the upper shock absorber mount. As a result, the shock absorber's reservoir was in permanent contact with the chassis. The bgm PRO SC Competition shock absorber is a further development of the successful BGM PRO F16 Sport series. Visually, the Competition series differs through the external expansion tank. AREA OF APPLICATION Sport & Comfort

Compared to the sport damper, the competition damper has a different basic set-up. This makes it very suitable for use with stiff sport springs such as the new bgm PRO spring.

The setting of rebound and compression levels also counteract the concept-typical brake nod, but also effectively counteract the rapid rebound on short bumps. This means that the competition damper offers a lot of reserves even in powerful vehicles. INSTALLATION & OPTICS

Thanks to the optimized installation dimension of 165mm, the damper also fits all 8-inch models without any problems, without preloading the spring or changing the angle of the swing arm. When installed, the external expansion tank is largely covered by the fender, which means that the original look of the front of the vehicle is retained. Attention: If you have used your Vespa for a trip shortly before, it is better to wait with the work until the exhaust and engine have cooled down.

 

The exhaust is held in place with three screws and a clamp on the manifold. The lambda probe cables and cooling water hoses may be located near the clamp. Please be careful not to damage these components.

 

It is advantageous to first loosen the clamp on the manifold and then the three screws on the rear swing arm that hold the actual exhaust body.

When loosening the last screw, please make sure that the exhaust cannot fall down. Now you can pull the exhaust back off the manifold.

The original Piaggio exhaust systems are between the exhaust and the manifold with a Graphite seal Mistake. This seal is sensitive to mechanical loads and should be replaced if there is obvious damage.

By loosening the two upper shock absorber mountings, the engine lowers slightly. So please pay attention to the whereabouts of the two discs and silent rubbers.

After removing the nut, you simply pull the right shock absorber off the pivot bolt and pull it down out of the frame.
