Conversion wiring harness for all Vespa PX models built up to 1982

This wiring harness is perfect for connecting your Vespa PX, which has a battery from the Piaggio factory, to a modern and maintenance-free  Electrical system retrofitting without battery. We offer an inexpensive and practical set with all the new switches and ignition lock you need (BGM6685KT).

In addition, this is for an exchange / restoration of the PX wiring harness in the Italian version for models without battery. In this case, the indicators, the horn (so-called buzzing) and all other consumers are supplied with power directly via the AC on-board network. The ignition base plate used in these vehicles is suitable for this with only 3 cables (contact ignition models) or 5 cables (vehicles with electronic ignition).

Vespa PX battery-free: conversion without battery

For the conversion of your scooter to the modern electrics, you need the following parts and in the future you will save the battery, the wintering and the care / maintenance of the vehicle battery

  • VOLTAGE REGULATOR
    Basically, the simple 3-pin voltage regulator (G | G | M) is used with this wiring harness (e.g. 9100001). The originally used 5-pin voltage regulator (A | A | B + | G | M) can still be used in vehicles that were delivered from the factory with a battery. Only connections B + and G remain unoccupied (formerly charging current for the battery). A better alternative is the compact and powerful BGM Pro voltage regulator (BGM6690). This can, for example, also supply a USB socket with 12V DC voltage for charging the mobile phone / navigation system etc.
  • IGNITION / IGNITION BASE PLATE / LIMA
    The type with 5 cables is used as the ignition base plate (also recognizable by the blue and black cables for the single power supply). The original 7-wire Lima of the battery models can no longer be used. However, due to their age, these very often show damage to the cable insulation anyway. A conversion to the more powerful ignition base plate of the later Lusso models (e.g. BGM8025N or BGM8032N) is therefore highly recommended. This increases the overall light output of the AC network considerably, as no more electricity is diverted to charge the battery. This means that old PX models can also be equipped with a 35 / 35W lamp. Most 5-wire alternators have a circular connector. The wiring harness offered here has (as in the Italian original) 6,3mm flat plugs. Either the wiring harness can be converted to a circular connector or the ignition base plate to a flat connector. The necessary parts can be found in the accessories.
  • FLASHING RELAY
    The battery models use a DC (direct current) flasher relay.
    After the conversion, an AC (alternating current) flasher relay is required (e.g. 1195703).

WHY AN LED HEADLIGHT ON THE VESPA? 

For most scooters, the limit with conventional Bilux light bulbs is a headlight bulb with 45/45 W. The ignitions, which are usually 80 W to a maximum of 120 W, do not provide any more. The luminosity is measured in lumens below 400. The LED headlight has a luminosity that is three times as high (1300 lumens). The power consumption is only 20 W. This corresponds to the light output of a conventional 100 watt spotlight. With a given alternator / power supply, a considerably better illumination can be achieved. In addition, there is more capacity for other consumers.

MOTO NOSTA LED HEADLIGHT!

LED headlights with E9 marking (street legal) and bright high / low beam. An additional feature is a separately switchable position light. With a diameter of 143mm it also fits perfectly into the steering head of the PX and Cosa models as well as into the lamp ring of e.g. Vespa Sprint, GTR and Rally.

Parts explosion! TetrisChallenge - Vespa PX bgm 177 - Platónika

The last episode of the Platónika project was about choosing the right components.

Now the parts are subjected to a very extensive visual inspection!

To my surprise, I got a huge box full of Vespa parts the same day I ordered. At this point, a big thank you to the tip-top logistics team for the ultra-fast compilation. And what do you usually do when you finally hold the long-awaited package in your hands? Exactly! Tear open immediately and take out all parts to examine them. Suddenly I found myself with thousands of pieces spread out on the floor and couldn't help but accept the #tetrischallenge. Check out the video and you will understand what it means to recreate an exploded view in real life.

How do build a complete Vespa from scratch

To build a complete scooter from single components is not an easy task and you need a source, or a shop in this case, with a strong search function and good data base.

The wishlist in the shop is also the perfect Trojan horse to share your wishes for Christmas, as it can be simply sent out by mail.

For the engine treatment I asked the SC technicians for their advice for the perfect touring engine that is reliable, powerful, a pleasure to ride and also not too thirsty.

Hello, my name is Maryzabel!

I am a trainee at Scooter Center. I come from Colombia and take you on my big and small adventures in the blog, take a look behind the scenes with you Scooter Center and take you to scooter meetings.

Vespa Platonic

My way to the last Trainee-Phase gave me an in-depth look at the Technology department brought. I swapped my notebook for work gloves and instead of taking notes, I now make videos of what I have learned.

And as fate would have it, my dream of restoring a Vespa turned into a reality. We have the idea assembling a Vespa completely from scratch. We are so excited about the project that we decided to film the story of the construction with unboxing, reviews and tutorials.

This new Vespa test bike will have all the parts that probably every Vespa rider would like to have, so hopefully not just a Vespa, but a Platonic love will arise!

Top touring comfort

The Yankee is extremely Comfortable touring seat. Under the seat cover you have two separated and ergonomic cushions. Besides, the seat surface of the pillion is higher and therefore very comfortable also for the second passenger. The seat also ensures an optimal sitting position and the cushion is made of high-density polyetherane foams (PU) for the highest comfort.

The frame of the seat is made of robust, black painted metal.

Comfort design seat for Vespa

The legendary seat from the 80s and 90s is back. Its design is unique, with the characteristic screen print with the double “G” of the Giuliari logo and the Yankee lettering on the back of the seat. The seat is made of stitched synthetic leather, with high UV resistance and of course also waterproof.

The lock is included in the item and is also available as a replacement in our online shop.

Test the best!

If you actually do not like this kind of “comfort design”, you should test this touring seat all the same and maybe use it as a second seat for long tours and journeys. For commuting or a sportive ride you can use the common extra flat sport seat.

The comfortable classic for travel

The Yankee is awesome comfortable travel bench. The bench consists of two separate and ergonomic seats under the ceiling.
