30 years Minusspanner Rollerclub Bremen

Party and DBM drag race in Bremen from 30.09. – 02.10.2022

Saturday morning, 07:30 a.m. The fine drizzle sprays in the faces of the eight tired figures shuffling across the Karlshöfen airfield north of Bremen. The last night is in everyone's bones. Too little sleep, too much partying. The euphoria of the sunny Friday is gone. The drizzle has meanwhile developed into heavy rain.

But a few hours later it's back, the euphoria. The first guests arrive. The paddock is filling up. Friends are welcomed. First gasoline talks take place. Now, at the latest, the minus wrenches will remember why they put themselves through this hardship. Friday evening already showed that we are somehow one big family. The snack with a delicious cold drink and meat from the grill made some very happy on Friday.

For today, however, it is important to concentrate and drive 201m straight ahead as quickly as possible. Shortly after 10 a.m., the qualifying runs of the German Tin Roller Championship (DBM) start almost on time. The rain has now stopped and the route is passable to a certain extent. Luckily, an airport's runway is in better condition than many German roads. The first scooters are warmed up. The typical 2-stroke scent is in the air.

The new regulations of the DBM stipulate that in qualifying everyone can drive against everyone else. The times driven are assigned to the classes in which the driver has registered. The DBM organizers and helpers tirelessly type data into the laptops. Questions are clarified and improvisations are made when the timing system goes on strike for a short time. But without the members of the DBM organization and the volunteers, such an event could not take place. Saturday shows once again how diverse the scene of tin scooter drivers is. Yes, such a drag race is not for everyone. But it's also part of the scene. And this part is again supported and kept alive by sponsors, like Flying Classics from Hamburg, the 2 wheel barn from Bremen and the Scooter Center from Cologne!

Luckily, the rest of Saturday was largely accident-free and on schedule. Fortunately, apart from a collision between two drivers in the paddock while warming up, the event remained accident-free. Unfortunately, there are always short heavy rain showers. But these can no longer spoil the mood. The catering tent is all the fuller as a result and the guests strengthen themselves with sausage, fries, Knipp or waffles.

The final runs of the individual classes start punctually in the afternoon. Now only those drivers who have registered and qualified for the respective class will compete against each other. The first winners are all beaming. Now only the “Best of all” is missing. Who sets the fastest time of all? The answer: Philippe Mittelberger with 8,26 seconds!

The trophies for all winners of places 1 to 3 were then presented during the night. The nighter on Saturday took place in the premises of an old school that the minus wrenches had rented together with the associated sports field. One or the other driver was more than happy to be able to enjoy a warm shower here after such a strenuous and wet cold day before hitting the dance floor. Here the whole night could be celebrated, drunk, eaten and snacked. It was just nice to be able to experience such a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

At this point, the minus screwdrivers would like to say a big thank you to all helpers, to all guests and especially to the sponsors. Without you, this event would no longer exist.

I hope to see you at the next drag race or just at half past the bar.

Your minus screwdriver Jörg
