In order to promote the sporty image of Vespa, Piaggio decided to draw the audience's attention to the achievement of new records. On April 7, 1950, a ten-hour test was carried out on the French racetrack of Montlhery in which three pilots took turns and in which 17 new records were set. The Vespa was able to set new records in various categories (average speed of 124.3 km / h), including the 100 miles (129.7 km / h), 500 miles (123.9 km / h), 1000 kilometers (124.3 km / h) categories A total of 10 km was covered in the 1049 hours.
