PERFECT SIZE

The bgm PRO Simmerrings have the perfect dimensions that guarantee easy installation, optimal function and a long service life. The large shaft seal on the clutch side, for example on old Vespas, has bgm PRO over a height of 7 mm, instead of the usual ones from other manufacturers 6,5 mm.
This is how the bgm PRO Simmer ring on the original factory information from Piaggio. If you have ever taken apart an old and original Vespa engine, you may have noticed that a large one comes from the factory Shaft seal was installed with a height of 7mm.

FLOATING CRANKSHAFT

In old engines, the crankshaft bearings are 'floating'. This means that the bearing is not fixed and it can be moved axially (horizontally laterally) in the motor housing. This shift takes place, for example, under load due to the axial force of the helically toothed primary drive. If the crankshaft shifts too much, this can of course have an effect on the ignition and also on the function of the clutch. The aim should therefore be to have as little unnecessary play as possible.

The stop and thus the play of this floating bearing are only determined by the shaft sealing rings in the Vespa engines. The tolerances in the old motors are large and, for example, we also use thicker housing seals today, so 7mm Simmerrings make sense!

WHY FKM / VITON®

The material is FKM (fluorocarbon rubber) extremely resistant to

  • Heat
  • Friction and
  • Fuel type
  • ethanol

Even super petrol fuel E5 in Germany currently has up to 5% ethanol admixture, with E10 even up to 10%, and the trend is rising. And did you know that this can vary from country to country? Possibly. Have you ever noticed in France, for example, that your engine runs differently? In other countries, the ethanol / alcohol content can be significantly higher.

A conventional shaft sealing ring cannot withstand this increasing ethanol admixture and can, for example, swell or soften on contact with fuels containing ethanol.
The bgm PRO In contrast, FKM / Viton® shaft seals offer one permanent protection. In addition, our Simmering with Viton® is compared to the conventional (blue) NBR shaft seals twice as temperature resistant. Further advantages of these modern shaft seals:

  • extremely gas impermeable
  • and very resistant to aging

 

SUITABLE FOR E10?

OK, so our Simmerrings from bgm have

but for what are they now suitable?

For reasons of environmental protection and in favor of maximum flexibility of the sealing lip, we deliberately refrain from additionally applying PTFE / Teflon® * to the sealing lip.

DOUBLE SAFE

The bgm PRO Shaft sealing rings offer a double seal as an additional feature:

All shaft seals that seal to the outside, to the atmosphere, have a so-called Dust lip. This is positioned and held in front of the actual sealing lip

  • Moisture away.

This further increases the very good stability.

CONCLUSION

The bgm PRO Shaft sealing ring set improves the installation clearance and, thanks to the excellent modern materials FKM / Viton®, offers an extremely long service life, combined with perfect fuel compatibility: it is even E10-resistant! WHY SHAFT SEAL MADE FROM FKM / VITON®

The material FKM (fluorocarbon rubber) is extremely heat, friction and fuel / ethanol resistant. Current premium fuel in Germany already contains an admixture of up to 5% ethanol per se.

In other countries the ethanol / alcohol content is even higher. Conventional Simmerrings / shaft seals can swell or soften when they come into contact with fuels containing ethanol.
