The ESC - European Scooter Challenge scooter races

The Scooter Center supports the motorsportt and also the ESC - the European Scooter Challenge. As the name suggests, it is a circuit racing series with classic scooters made of sheet metal, predominantly Vespa and Lambretta. The first circuit races were held in Austria and Germany as early as the XNUMXs.

The main goal of the ESC is to offer a broad platform for scooter racing enthusiasts with all demands.

The various racing classes, which cover beginners to professionals and women, are based on these ideas.
In particular, the one-size-fits-all classes are to be emphasized here, in which real top-class motorsport can be realized with low maintenance costs and costs.

On September 21st and 22nd there was the end of the season in Magny Cours as part of the Scootentole races.

The series, which now consists of 3 races, is also enjoying increasing popularity with ESC drivers.

After the last runs of the ESC in Hungary literally fell into the water, we were actually hoping for a nice, warm and above all dry racing weekend.

The Friday training, however, had to take place completely in light rain.
So it was called on Sava monsoon or to change K58RSC rain tires.

When the sky locks were really opened again on Friday evening, we already let all hopes go for a dry racing Saturday. Even the cautiously optimistic online weather forecast and the slightly confident “RAIN-O-METER” could not lighten our mood in the face of this deluge.

However, Saturday surprised us with the cloud cover and when the track dried out, we were able to do our first free practice and qualification.

With the Sava's the wet, slippery route could still be controlled well. Nevertheless, the top times were still 1:10 and as soon as the water was no longer on the track, Maik Persch (ESC175) could drive a maximum of 1:08 into the wet asphalt.

It stayed dry for the entire day of the race, so the feared tire slaughter did not occur in which one had to switch from dry to rain tires and back again 5 minutes later.

So the tire choice for Saturday was the Sava Super Sofat for the front and the Soft Drinks Version for the rear.

Maik Persch, this year's champion of the ESC, was able to take the overall victory in class C3 on these rubbers and despite a very considerable straight drive with a subsequent take-off through a hanging throttle slide.

The award ceremony took place in the usual exuberant atmosphere. A nice end to the day with a buffet and subsequent raffle.

... and there was enough celebration in the paddock afterwards, the “K8” counter class of the ESC, is in any case and fortunately, cross-racing series.

2012 was a special year because this year the ESC Endurance started for the first time. In this endurance championship, in contrast to the regular ESC championship, there are no sprint races against each other, but teams drive up to 6 hours at a time to win. That Scooter Center Cologne sent the GSF SCK Endurance Team (Andreas Putz, Michael 'maniac' Betz) into the race, which already earned its spurs at the 24 hour race in Spain and achieved a splendid triple victory there (fastest race lap, class win, overall win).

The first endurance run in Liedolsheim as part of the Stoneheads 'Run'n'Race', in which the team was able to take first place without any major problems, went with correspondingly high expectations. After the endurance run in Wackersdorf had to be canceled due to poor weather conditions due to the 'cornering' of the pacemakers, the race at the Harzring, which was organized by Wotox SC, was on the agenda. The weather was mixed and we had a nasty take-off that catapulted us beyond the podium in terms of space. After a lot of plumbing work on the racing machine, the rpm scootering 'sheet metal fight' in Belleben was on the agenda, which despite a leaky head, leaky exhaust flange and a torn membrane was completed second. Blessed with these defects, after the body, the engine also deserved an overhaul, which had previously contested all races of the season including the 24h race without revision. With freshly revised work equipment, we then arrived at the season finale for the 'Holidays in Hungary', which was organized by GOA SC. At the beginning of the race still on a hard-fought first place, we lost valuable time due to a brake defect and a dented (wtf ??? diagnosis pending!) Spark plug. Equipped with a strategic will to win and with fantastic weather behind us, we secured second place in Hungary, which won us first place in the ESC Endurance Championship!

At this point, many thanks to our guest drivers Benedikt Neuberger, Robert Leibfarth and Jens Fischer ... thank you guys, another job well done!

The ESC season is just around the corner and with it the preparations. This year we will see new engines and vehicles on the racetracks in Germany, France, Austria and Hungary.

A typical K1 engine has appeared on our test bench and is checked for its performance and functionality.

The ESC rules accordingly, the stroke is limited to 51mm.
Hence in this case one comes BGM crankshaft with 51mm stroke and 105mm connecting rods are used.

The one enthroned on the case Polini Evo is from one, with 0,35mm carbon material converted to 2 flaps Polini membrane with Strohspeed intake manifold ventilated. For the mixture preparation there is a 33 Keihin responsible. To keep the crankcase clean, the air is passed through a Marchald air filter sucked in. The very good air throughput of the Marchald filter and the resulting very low power dissipation in the per mille range make this filter, which has been tried and tested on the road, also interesting for racing use.
Ignition is via Vespatronic, which is set to 24-16.

On the outlet side, the K1 will be represented by one French charged.
Good torque values and moderate speeds make this exhaust very interesting for the circuit.

The power generated is currently still on a reinforced XL2 coupling DRT Runner countershaft transferred, but more on that in a moment. Now first curve discussion:

All in all a typical Franz engine, Reso entry between 5500 and 6000 rpm, peak at around 9000 rpm and funny overrev up to 10.000 rpm.

With 11PS at 6000 rpm in the ascent it is also quite pleasant to drive.

With over 20 hp from 7300 rpm to approx. 9700 rpm, you can always move in the power range if necessary thanks to the Runner auxiliary shaft.

Now comes the crux of the matter, the clutch apparently disengages at the torque applied here, at almost 20Nm it's simply over. That means in plain language, the engine is opened again and it becomes a Hartz4 coupling installed.

Perhaps then something will change in terms of power and torque.

Even if the performance does not increase any further due to a clutch that does not slip, at least wear is stopped. A slipping clutch is likely to burn within a few laps on the racetrack or on the road after a trip in the country and can also result in consequential damage.

Maybe we can still find time to make a portmap of the cylinder.

Holiday in Hungary Vol.2 was the motto of the last weekend!

In the night of Thursday we took the 1.097 km route and arrived at the Panonia Ring after a 12-hour drive. There were already some friends to be found there and with very summery temperatures, we had the opportunity to train on the kart track on Thursdays and Fridays.

In addition to our long-distance team scooter (PK XL2 with Polini EVO cylinder), we had Alex and Dennis with us, their class 1 racer, as well as my old racer in a new look for class 2. In addition to new chassis modifications, we still had some power in the Parmakit W Force found and so I was curious how the new / old scooter can be driven.

Most of the teams / drivers arrived on Friday, the last ones on Saturday ESC runs queue up and one for Sunday 6h race was on the program!

Am Samstag
There were then 3 more training units for everyone and the championship races began at 14:00 pm!

Here it should be mentioned that in class 2 the driver Markus Angleiter (Team Stoffi) drove the fastest race lap ever and thus faster than that falc Works driver Hilton!
Overall, the lap time level was very high and even one-class scooters under a minute were driven. (For results see http://eurochallenge.de/)

On Sunday
stood that 6h race on, as the 2nd run of the long distance cup. (Consists of Springrace; Hungary and Fallrace)

Last year there was a 4h race on the kart track and this year it was increased to 6h! The temperatures were like last year - EXTREMELY hot - for man and machine!
Starting in 19th position, we were able to work our way forward and after 3 hours we were in 12th place! Unfortunately we lost the carburetor once and had to re-connect it a second time after a broken hose clamp on the carburetor rubber carburettor fix! After that he should hold and so it was a nice 10th place in the end. We shouldn't have continued to drive much longer with our front brake, because it would have lasted for a maximum of 10 minutes!

In the overall ranking
we are now in 7th place and hope in fall race for a good result.

After chilling 2 in the restaurant along the way, we had to SCOOTER CENTER The bus was then loaded again and drove towards home at 11 am on the same day.

Here then again THANKS to ALL of our sponsors !!!

With that in mind, up fall race

RUN & RACE 2011

It is really worth the trip. Both the run and the RACE feeling mix here in a unique way.

We traveled with the new updates in our luggage, like last year, with the SCOOTER - CENTER test bench to "check" the standard class scooters and to give every scooter friend who had traveled the opportunity to measure their performance.

This was used well on Friday and Saturday and luckily the weather was good throughout the weekend.

On Friday evening, bar sports were also celebrated in various classes and thus a little later for one or the other racing driver.

The next day the sun was shining predominantly except for a few drops at noon you couldn't say anything against the weather and the atmosphere was just great.

Unfortunately there were 2 more serious accidents this weekend, but as far as I know, both drivers are doing better again and it should be mentioned that these accidents were not caused by outside influences. Nevertheless, there is still a certain risk factor and because of that, I want to RESPECT the really fast guys who all swept the racetrack for less than a minute.

As in Mirecourt, we were represented in classes 1 & 2 and at the moment we are still in the middle of the field, as our cornering speeds can be improved. ;))

In this sense to Wackersdorf or Hungary

Vespa races MirecourtESC goes France

For the third time we visited our friends from scoothole (the French GSF) with whom an ESC run will be held in Mirecourt / France this year.

As usual we had it SCOOTER CENTER Test bench here and arrived at the racetrack this year even in the most wonderful weather.

Some had used the bridge day and had already arrived on Thursday in order to have enough preparation time on the track for the races on Saturday.

The event was again very well organized, the ambience wonderful and in my eyes one of the most beautiful but also a very exhausting route of the ESC.

On Saturday the sun was shining all day and luckily nothing worse happened for the rest of the day except for a violent collision.

The starting field was the largest since the ESC was founded and with around 150 starters France, Austria, Germany and the Netherlands a colorful mix to it.

Dennis drove his Polini EVO with 51 Polini rotary valve shaft & Franz exhaust.
Alex ditto with Polini EVO with 51 Mazzucelli shaft and 105 BGM connecting rod, membrane intake manifold & fire magic exhaust.
Torsten the Parmakit W Force with 54 BGM wave & Big Bertha exhaust.
All three racing scooters are with the MMW Hartz 4 coupling equipped and one Vespatronic.

We started this year for the first time in the ESC in classes 1 & 2 and were very satisfied with our results.

Fortunately, the bad weather only moved over the kart track towards evening and so we could go home on Saturday evening with a clear conscience.

Thanks again to our sponsors!
The results can be seen on the ESC page -> http://www.eurochallenge.de/ and we are looking forward to Liedolsheim (RUN & RACE)!

In this sense: you see each other / on the route

Last week the Eurochallenge 2010 took place in Hungary (Panoniaring)!

The program included: free driving on the kart track on Friday and Sunday, ESC runs on Saturday and a 4-hour race on Sunday. Those who still didn't have enough could do 3 times 20 minutes on the GP track on Monday!

All in all, a tight program - we haven't left anything out.
