Custom Lambretta Matt Thompson

Today we have a fantastic Lambretta as a participant in the Scooter Center Get Facebook Customhsow.
https://www.facebook.com/scootercentercom

Matt Thompson is the owner, he built it himself and painted it. Fine part, as we find:

Custom Lambretta Matt Thompson

Here is another cool video where Matt Thompson's custom Lambretta is also at the start:

[youtube] opLTkRtcnCE [/ youtube]

The interest on Facebook with over 100 shares and well over 500 likes shows that this Lambretta is very well received!
You may have already experienced the Custom Lambretta live with Matt Thompson, as he drives the good piece through all of Europe!

We love it!

Fast Lambretta

The flying Austrian with a crass Lambretta engine setup?

Today we have the 100 - participant mark at our Facebook - Customshow cracked and a cool participant photo of the flying Peter on his Lambretta is also there again:

Fast Lambretta

Lambretta engine setup?

Here of course the question arises which one Lambretta engine Setup throws the driver off the seat like this. If I didn't know better, one might think that the photo is a fake. This pilot fluttering in the airstream on on his Lambretta looks awesome. I could imagine that he installed at least the components below. If you look closely: this obviously unstable driving behavior could also be due to the missing additional shock absorbers at the front. That Scooter Center recommends here of course: Lambretta shock absorbers bgm PRO with 16-way adjustable rebound adjustment

  • Developed as an update for all types of fork springs. Works particularly well with the progressive MB fork springs.
  • Easy to install, fit directly onto the standard additional shock absorber mounts. No welding work or further modifications required.
  • Perfect addition to the rear bgm Shock absorbers.
  • Attention: The damper should be installed in such a way that the adjuster is installed at the bottom.

Lambretta Engine Setup:

The Lambretta seems to be a sg street sleeper to be. A lot of steam under the side panels - but you don't see it at first glance - Peter almost takes off his pants, like the one going on here on the beach. So it could be like this:

Lambretta cylinder: bgm MRB Racetour

BGM2225 our best cylinder for a Lambretta engine Cylinder -BGM PRO MRB-Racetour 225 cc- Lambretta TV 200, SX 200, DL 200, GP 200 Mark Broadhurst has incorporated his experience from several decades of Lambretta tunings and over 1.700 tuned two-stroke cylinders into the development of the RaceTour cylinders. The cylinders are available with a 65 mm bore for the small engine cases with 125-175 ccm and with a 70 mm bore for the 200 cc engine case. The cylinders offer significantly increased performance and thus more everyday usability and driving pleasure:

  • Around 14 hp with a 22 mm carburetor and Clubman exhaust *
  • Around 15-20 hp with a 24/25 mm carburetor and Clubman exhaust *
  • Around 16-24 hp with a 28/30 mm carburetor and Clubman exhaust *
  • Around the 18-24 PX with 28/30 mm carburetor and Dev-Tour exhaust

The power is available relatively early in the rev range and the kits have enough torque to drive longer gear ratios. The power delivery is very even, so that RaceTour engines feel like an original Innocenti 200 engine but with twice the power. Like the original cylinder, the carburetor is on the left-hand side. No changes need to be made to the frame or the add-on parts. This makes the RaceTour the ideal cylinder for everyone who doesn't want to change the look of their Lambretta, but still doesn't want to forego performance. All required seals, stud bolts and small parts are included in the scope of delivery.Characteristics:

  • Ceramic coated aluminum cylinder
  • Quadruple screw connection at the outlet
  • 200 cc stud spacing for the small and large engine version
  • Forged piston with Ø = 65 mm for the 195 and with Ø = 70 mm for the 225 cylinder
  • Two 1 mm thin rings in the best Japanese quality
  • Solid, completely CNC manufactured head with recessed combustion chamber. Eight-fold screw connection. Made in Germany.
  • Compression ratio for maximum reliability when used with both 58 mm and 60 mm strokes.
  • Porting layout for high cruising speeds, lots of torque and a wide range of power
  • The purchase price is refinanced through the moderate consumption values
  • There is sufficient material on all sealing surfaces and channels to machine the cylinder to the maximum

Lambretta exhaust: bgm MRB BigBox

Lambretta exhaust BGM2105 for Lambretta engine

With the BIG BOX Clubman, too, Mark Broadhurst made full use of his experience. So he has managed to accommodate the performance of a resonance exhaust in an exhaust body that is visually not far removed from an original Lambretta Series 3 exhaust. In terms of performance and speed, our Clubman is on the level of the highly recommended -but no longer produced- MRB Devtour exhaust. Here you will find torque, a wide power range and a very pleasant noise level. The first clubman for that Scooter Center Mark made it by hand for Ulf around twenty years ago. Today, with the BIG BOX, we produce what is probably the best Clubman of all time.

  • There are several features for the first time in series production:
  • Performance like a resonance exhaust
  • Quiet
  • Larger volume of the exhaust body
  • More ground clearance
  • Outlet socket for round (TS1 & Co.) and oval (RaceTour, Mugello, Standard, ...) outlet
  • The outlet, manifold and body are suspended from springs
  • Reinforced at all critical points
  • Suspension like the racing exhaust for perfect and tension-free assembly
  • Can be dismantled without having to remove the right footboard or the cylinder hood
  • Well thought-out design that works

lambretta custom castrol

Time for a Lambretta Custom from ours Facebook - Customshow to present.
This Lambretta Custom “Castrol” is already 20 years old - you can't tell by looking at it.

Here is the information from the owner about this timeless classic:

  • FullBody conversion
  • TS1 245cc
  • GRP body
  • 20 year old Costum conversion from Austria (RL Costums)

lambretta custom castrol

I don't know what moved the builder back then, this one super Castrol paintwork for his Lambretta Custom to implement.
In the 90s, Castrol TTS oil was very popular and widespread.
We now recommend Motul motor oils, which we also offer cheaply in the Lambretta & Vespa shop: MOTUL OIL

For example, this top oil would be suitable for the 245 TS1 cylinder installed on this Lambretta Custom:

MOTUL 800 2T ROAD RACING

This oil is a fully synthetic 2-stroke high-performance engine oil on a double ester basis. Specially designed for the extreme demands of road racing, for both water-cooled and air-cooled engines. MOTUL 800 2T OFF ROAD is recommended for MX motorcycle racing. Can be used for regular gasoline and unleaded gasoline up to 124 octane.

From May 31.05st - 02.06.2013 the annual meeting of the Stoneheads took place again in Liedolsheim.

Usually the region is subject to the Liedolsheim go-kart track not the meteorological conditions. This meeting has always shone in the last few years with blazing sun and summer temperatures.

This year, however, it was literally “land under”. Continuous rainfall and heavy rain at night were on the program for the 11th Run and Race.

29.05.13 060

In the party tent, of course, the party continued until the early hours of the morning.

On Saturday, the actual day of the race, after a sobering look into the paddock, ...

29.05.13 050

At the driver briefing, the planned start of training was postponed due to the weather conditions. In the meantime, attempts have been made to drain the route with drainage holes that were excavated by specially provided excavators and to drain the fire brigade's submersible pumps.

29.05.13 054

An undertaking that was made difficult by the constant rain. In the end, around 11:00 the first brave ones were able to swim a lap on the track ...

Unfortunately, the joy only lasted for a short time - due to increasing rain, the route was closed again at 11:30.

Photo 2

While the water was a source of annoyance for the drivers on the route, it was a source of joy elsewhere….
29.05.13 061

The planned endurance race was canceled without replacement so that a reasonable schedule could still come about despite all the adverse circumstances and the race day could be carried out in accordance with the rules. After the rain stopped around 13 p.m., we were also able to put our P00 test bench into operation.

29.05.13 063

At least a little contrast program for all those who like angry engine sound and the smell of 2-stroke oil.

29.05.13 066

Then finally, around 15:00 p.m., after a short qualifying session for all drivers, all ESC classes were able to carry out 2 rated runs each.

And when the sun broke through the clouds for the first run of the K1, the racing world was all right again.

In addition, here are a few on-board impressions from Isa and Philipp:

ESC R&R 2013 K1L1 pil

And finally ...

Another successful one from the Stoneheads. Despite all the adversities, it was great fun!

Today we had another customer and friend of the house who wanted to strap the bgm PRO MRB Big Box under his Lambretta.

The 186 Mugello cylinder has been redesigned for a sporty look with control angles of 128 ° to 190 °.

The mixture is prepared by a 34 Koso, which is ignited by a Varitronic.

With a style exhaust, a remarkable almost 29 hp are pressed onto the roller.

In a direct comparison, the resonance systems are clearly ahead in terms of peak performance.

The bgm Pro Clubman can score in the drivability category.

Although the ignition is set rather good-naturedly at 23 ° -15 °, the Clubman can be driven more relaxed in the lower speed range without drops and with around 3PS / 3Nm.

From 5600 rpm, JL and Style63 respond and double the rear wheel performance within 1000 rpm. Those who like it very sporty are certainly well advised to do so.
However, steady movement looks more relaxed and is shown in RED in the diagram.

After our bgm Pro Clubman has already shown what he can do on TS1 cylinders in Part 1 and Part 2, we are going to take our bgm test bike today.

The engine consists of a plugged in bgm Pro RT225 cylinder, bgm Pro crankshaft 60mm stroke and 30 mm carburettor. The cylinder is the current series version with a CNC cylinder head.

The bgm PRO Clubman, Ancillotti von Sito and the JL KRP3 are available as test canids.

As a first comparison here bgm Pro Clubman against Sito

As with the TS1 cylinders, the Clubman's superiority in performance and, above all, torque is noticeable. Up to over 7000 rpm, the Clubman is ahead with 1Ps and 2Nm.

Clubman versus JL KRP3

Over the speed range of 4500rpm -8500rpm (!) The bgm Pro Clubman takes over 1Ps from the JL Road. Even the short torque peak of the JL can no longer really score.

All in all one can say that the bgm Pro Clubman delivers a pretty coherent performance on a plugged-in bgm RT225 cylinder. The concept works particularly well in the area of suitability for everyday use and torque behavior - without complex processing and diaphragm.

Today we put a TS1 tuned by MB Development RaceTour to the test.
The trunk engine was the same as in the first part of our test.
The cylinder has been redesigned by Mark Broadhurst himself, equipped with Tassinari V-Force, MB forged pistons and a moderately compressed head. The Mikuni TMX30 carburetor was still used, the following was tested:

[break]

bgm PRO Clubman compared to JL3:

Exhaust test Scooter Center Lambretta TS1 bgm PRO Clubman versus JL3

Against the well-known JL Road (JL3 or similar KRP3) was of course also tested. In this case, you should by no means be blinded by the maximum value achieved. Even if the peak on the JL3 is around 3 hp higher, you shouldn't lose sight of the width of the band. A sovereign engine should have enough reserves, especially in the area where you mainly spend your day-to-day life. The bgm PRO Clubman is clearly ahead of the JL with over 3,5PS / 3NM. As a result, with every shift you will almost certainly end up in an area in which there is sufficient power immediately.
The JL3 has to take a breath first, i.e. one would have to downshift for rapid progress. On the road, the bgm PRO Clubman will represent the more coherent concept and comes very close to the driving characteristics of a powerful TDI engine.
[break] Exhaust test Scooter Center Lambretta TS1 bgm PRO MRB Big Box Clubman versus JL3

[break]

For all less experienced curve fans, we have also entered the mean value of approx. 4.600 rpm up to 9.500 rpm below. In the area in the curve marked with hatched bars, the performance advantage is put into perspective to just under 0.5 hp.

Conclusion: The bgm PRO Clubman works on mild touring cylinders as well as on strong sports setups with long control angles. Build on it and look forward to it ...

With our new bgm PRO MRB Big Box Clubman Exhaust we were able to do a few test runs today.

The everyday GP von Ulf had to serve as a test victim.

With a TS1 and a TMX30 equipped, the engine offers a good test basis for the typical everyday engine.

In comparison we have one Ancillotti and one JL Road KRP3 tested against the bgm PRO MRB Big Box Clubman.

Here in comparison to the Ancilotti by Sito.

Compared to the Ancillotti, the Big Box scores with more power and torque across the entire speed range. Over 2,5 Nm and 2 HP more in the range from 4700 rpm to 6700 rpm push noticeably better than the Ancillotti. The band, which is 1000 rpm wider, ensures a good gear connection with every gear change.

In direct comparison to the KRP3 or JL Road.

Although the top of the JL offers just under half a horsepower more power, half the horse is bought at the cost of a significant lack of power and, above all, a lack of torque in the range from 4500 rpm to 5500 rpm. If you want to accelerate quickly out of this speed range, first shift down to the next lower gear with the JL. When shifting gear you should also hit the right speed with the JL Road, otherwise you will end up in the exact torque hole from which you have to struggle with a lot of effort.

And here again all tourers in comparison.

Here is the evaluation of our P4 duel.

The target was to beat the 29,9 HP mark. Set by one Cast iron Polini 133 with 54er bgm crankshaft, Carburetor Keihin PWK35AS and Fire magic Exhaust.

With 29,3PS, Jonas just missed the mark. Close behind with 29,2HP is Matthias with his 133 Polini rotary valve engine.

In a joint agreement, we, Jonas and the Scooter-Center decided to give the promotion voucher worth 100 euros "Scooterist-chairty / GSF donation campaign" let it come.

We also add the necessary test bench time for the donation engine on our test bench.

In the gallery findet you a few selected runs of the X-mas duel.

In reality, small, angry SF motors are of course much more popular - so just be part of the next P4 campaign!

We would like to thank all participants of the x-mas campaign, it was really fun to spend the whole day with you “on the roll”.

The world is excited about the outcome of the US elections. The sympathies seem to be clearly distributed, unfortunately the outcome of the election amounts to a head-to-head race.

We will also vote today, and here too we are excited to see which green wins the race. The late 60s bring one or the other innovation, long hair, free love and that is what I said Green apple Hue. With Piaggio's Vespa as well as with Innocentis Lambretta.

The Vespa V50 and the Lambretta SX 150 in particular are “rare as rocking horse shit” in apple-green sheet metal and are accordingly in demand.

Enclosed you will find a couple of scooters in the original paint and the possibility to vote for your favorite?

[Poll id = "13"]

We have some really nice and new Lambretta sheet metal parts in our range. This rounds off our range of pressed sheet metal parts.

We were particularly pleased with the Series 1 and 2 leg shields and side panels.

We spared no expense or effort and fought our way through various traffic jams in the middle of the summer holidays so that you don't have any project jams. The destination was Casa Lambretta in Milan.

Mission accomplished, goods in Cologne and now there is a lot of booking.

Casa Lambretta in our shop: CLICK!

Yesterday our friend Ercole was with us again with his Lambretta D Racer. You can find the blog entry about his first visit with us here. His racer was tuned for the Cologne circuit on the Nürburgring so that nothing stands in the way of the race.

Setup has changed as follows compared to his first visit: 30 series VSH carburetor

The blue curve shows yesterday's test run and the red curve from his first visit a year ago. 1HP more power and better torque were the end result. That Scooter Center Team wishes good luck on the Cologne circuit.

Last week Harald was a guest on our Amerschläger P4 to check the carburetor set-up of his 225 Monza and to optimize it if necessary.

Here are the key data of the engine:

Cylinder: Monza 70mm bore

Crankshaft: BGM 60 / 110mm

Carburetor: Mikuni TMX 30

Exhaust: JL-KRP3

Steering angle: 186 ° / 126 °

Crush dimension: 1,7mm

The diagram shows the change from the red to the blue curve.

By using a thicker slider and changing the needle position, more pre-resol power and more overrev could be realized.

Here's a little update on scooter crankshafts in general. As a rule, the shafts and other engine components are designed for very low power. The width of the crankshaft and thus the diameter of the crank webs are correspondingly. The crankcase surrounding the shaft is the limiting factor that determines the possible dimensions of a crankshaft. The overlap of the crank pin is thus given within a certain framework. Making the shaft wider in order to increase the coverage of the crank pin is only possible with a few engine concepts and there only to a very limited extent.

Therefore, the maximum load capacity of the shafts is de facto given. Regardless of this theoretically quite low load limit, serious tuning of the motor often puts 200-700% more power into the case. The fact that the waves can withstand this load is due to several factors.

With some crankshaft types, for example the Lambretta GP series, it is possible to install a crank pin with a larger diameter than the standard. That's how they come BGM Lambretta crankshafts among other things with a 22mm instead of the standard Lambretta size of 20mm.

In the Vespa waves Unfortunately, this little trick is only possible to a limited extent. Nevertheless, thanks to the correct oversize of the crank pin and the correct pressing technique with the use of Loctite, we have managed to construct super durable shafts. These are manufactured exclusively for us by a renowned European crankshaft manufacturer.

The Vespa Smallframe Shafts are used in a number of ESC motors and are absolutely unbeatable in terms of price-performance ratio. They are available with a stroke of 51 mm and 54 mm as well as with the PK or the ETS cone. Both Smallframe For engines, a larger diameter of the crank web is fortunately possible. In terms of the radius, this results in a higher coverage and thus more security. In order to accommodate the shaft, the crankcase must be spindled accordingly. Fortunately, thanks to sufficient material, this is not a big problem.

The Vespa PX 200 shafts are the reference for all rotary vane motors, as they come with a perfect inlet time, a flow-optimized geometry of the inlet cheek and a very favorable balancing factor.
There are variants with 57 mm and 60 mm stroke. Both enable powerful and durable engines. The inlet angle is kept as long as possible but as short as necessary to prevent the blowback into the carburettor that is common with other manufacturers.

Another reference in the crankshaft sector are the bgm Evo Piaggio Maxi 2-T Waves.
They are used in all of our demonstrator engines. From the 38PS ZIP to our one-off two-cylinder which maltreats the crankshaft with over 50NM.

These selected examples clearly show that a properly constructed shaft is durable. There can be room for improvement in terms of details and depending on the engine concept. Of course, this requires a minimum level of knowledge of the subject. TIG welded connecting rod journals, in which the entire crank webs discolour or massive material removal around the crankpin, are often causes of massive damage to the shaft and, as a result, to the surrounding components.

Often, further processing is not necessary even for maximum performance results.
Rotary valve housing converted to a diaphragm inlet can bring almost 130HP to the rear wheel from 30ccm. And that with surprisingly small cross-sections between the housing and the shaft.

SKOOTER RIDEOUT! 2011 @ ISE-SHIMA NATIONAL PARK

19th NOV - 20th NOV

The first day was a very cold rainy day. However, Lot of SCOOTERISTS from various areas in Japan gathered in the Ise Shima international park.

Sadly, the touring run of the first day was stopped because of bad weather. But, we enjoyed the party with much alcohol and a delicious dish! ISE-SHIMA is a specialty place of a fresh seafood. We greatly enjoyed it with many many alcohol!

At the party, the ceremony of the donation which charitable project “SCOOTERISTS 4 JAPANESE SCOOTERISTS” of the SCK contributed to VESPA CLUB MIYAGI was also held. And -of course- the donation was presented also from all entrants of SKRO !.

And the entrants scrambled for the fantastic premiums (parts, clothing, decal, accessories etc ..) which entrants and many SHOPS in the world supported happily in the game!

After the party drank alcohol, and night advanced and it went in the room of each hotel by SCOOTER TALK ……

The 2nd day was fine weather from the morning. Temperature is not cold, either. We collected the candidate and went out for the early morning run. The wind of early morning Ise Shima was comfortable, and the exhaust sound of 2stroke sounded pleasantly.

After the Japanese breakfast, we went out for a short touring run by all the entrants. So we enjoyed the good road and seaside view in Ise Shima National Park!

I feel that Japanese Scooter Scene is changing in several years. The Scooter friends in the world joined hands through evolution of communication of the Internet.
Thank you for the always big support. SCK !!!
