Lambretta 100mph Bonneville World of Speed Record

Chasing records with the Lambretta on the salt slope

Our customer Todd Rogers from the USA set out with his 225 Lambretta to hunt for records in Bonneville.

Do you still remember the film "with heart and soul" with Anthony Hopkins? Burt Munro (Anthony Hopkins) travels to Bonneville with his Indian Scout to take part in the annual high-speed race on the Utah Salt Flats. One of my favorite films, below you can find a teaser for the film.

Todd Rogers Lambretta Club USA

So our customer Todd Rogers has set off for Utah with his Lambretta World of Speed made. Here in Bonneville he wants to set a record with his Lambretta on the salt slope.

Todd Rogers from the Lambretta Club USA with his Lambretta

The right tires

During the preparations for the record attempt, there were problems with the tires. Todd has so far ridden tires with a “P approval” on his Lambretta.
But P corresponds to only 93 mph or 150 km / h and with these tires he would not have received approval for an official record attempt at over 100 mph.

Choosing the perfect tire was then relatively easy, after all, ours are ours bgm PRO SPORT tires, the only 10 x 3.50 tires with a Approval of 180km / h or 112 mph! In addition, Todd did not want to expose himself to any risk and so relied on the bgm PRO  Quality tires MADE IN GERMANY.

"BGM BRINGS A CLASSIC BACK TO THE MARKET"

Even that Scootering magazine are our new ones bgm tires not escaped. In the current issue you can find a nice report on our classic tires, here they are compared with the legendary MICHELIN ACS, and justifiably so.

bgm Classic tires Michelin ACS

“BGM BRINGS A CLASSIC BACK TO THE MARKET

bgm has launched a new tire that is a look back at the old days of scooter riding, but with modern technology. Simply referred to as Classic, the tread pattern is similar to that of the Michelin ACS. For those who can't remember: the ACS was one of the best tread patterns ever designed for the scooter and offers good handling characteristics not only on dry, but also on wet roads. For years it was standard equipment on both the Vespa and the Lambretta. Even today, original copies of the ACS can fetch huge sums of money as owners want that retro look.

Michelin destroyed the molds as early as the late 1980s and so it was banned in the history books. Fortunately, BGM brought them back to life with the company's new design. The Classic has a speed of up to 150kmh / 93mph which is very impressive. This is due to a reinforced carcass that not only improves stability at high speed but also when cornering. Cornering is even more supported by the V-shape of the pro? Le compared to the U-shape, which enables more surface contact as the lean angle is increased. Using a revised blend, they're super grippy in all conditions. That means not only that owners of standard machines who want the classic tire look can use the bene? T, but also those with tuned engines. The Classic is made in Germany and is available in the traditional size 3.50-10. These tires are now sold in the UK and many dealers already have them in stock.

BGM RELAUNCHES A CLASSIC

bgm has launched a new tire which is a throwback to the old days of scootering but using modern technology. Simply labeled the Classic, the tread pattern is similar to that of the Michelin ACS. For those that can't remember, the ACS was one of the best tread patterns ever designed for the scooter, not only giving good road-handling properties in the dry but also in wet conditions. For years it was standard issue equipment for both the Vespa and Lambretta. Even today, original examples of the ACS can fetch huge sums as owners want that retro look. Michelin destroyed the molds back in the late 1980s and so it was consigned to the history books. Thankfully BGM has brought it back to life with the company's new design. The Classic is speed-rated up to 150kmh / 93mph, which is very impressive. This is down to a strengthened carcass which not only improves stability at high speed but also when cornering. Cornering is aided even further by the V shape of the pro? Le compared with the U shape, which allows more surface contact as the lean angle is increased. Using a revised compound, they are super grippy in any conditions. Not only does this mean that owners with standard machines who want that classic tire look will bene? T but also those with tuned engines can use them as well. The Classic is made in Germany and available in the traditional 3.50-10 size. These tires are now being distributed in the UK with many dealers already stocking them. For more info: www.scooter-center.com

PMT Tires scooter tires for scooter racing

Made in Italy: PMT Tires

The Italian tire manufacturer PMT (Pauselli Model Tires) has been around since 1990. Originally, the company produced tires for RC cars and the mini-bike racing series popular in Italy. Since then they have also made tires for motorcycles and above all Racing tires for scooters develop, they quickly secured a top spot among the racing drivers' favorite tires. the PMT tires are available in perfect mixtures for the various soil, weather and temperature conditions.

PMT Tires

PMT Tires Rain & Intermediate

Slick, mix: hard

The slick with a hard compound is ideally suited for routes with high asphalt temperatures and heavy use from many alternating curves and braking maneuvers. The hard mixture is the most abrasion-resistant and can therefore be used very well in endurance / long-distance races. The warm-up phase for the optimum operating temperature (~ 80 ° C) is significantly longer with this mixture than with the "medium" or "soft" mixture.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Slick, mix: medium

The medium bridges the gap between the hard and persistent as well as the extremely well adhering but also quickly wearing soft mixture. The medium thus covers a very large area of application. Its optimal operating temperature is ~ 75 ° C and, like the hard mixture, requires a longer break-in period than the soft mixture to get up to temperature.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Slick, mix: soft

The soft PMT mixture offers full grip even at lower temperatures. Accordingly, it wears out quickly at higher temperatures and then no longer offers its full grip level. In return, it very quickly reaches its optimal operating temperature of 70 ° C.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Slick, rain

With the rain slick PMT offers a new interpretation of an intermediate. An intermediate with a slick profile was created here, based on the rubber compound of the pure rain tire. Ideal for changeable weather with equal proportions of wet and dry sections of the route.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Rain racing

The rain tire from PMT plays in the highest league of rain experts for the circuit.
Whoever has mounted this tire needs a good excuse if it did not work out with a good placement ...
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Drag Race

PMT's drag race tires are ideal for all quartermile engines.
No grip is lost here and all of the power is transferred to the asphalt without slipping.
But that also means that there is no mercy for clutch or transmission ...

How do I mount the tires on a Vespa / Lambretta?

Using our example bgm Classic tires we show the correct assembly of the tire (split rim).

1. Reduce friction

The inner tube is subject to flexing when the tire rolls and therefore it makes sense to cause friction inside talc to reduce.
The white powder reduces the friction between the tube and the tire and thus the wear and tear of the tube.

A small amount of talc is distributed inside the tire and the tube is filled with air just enough so that it does not expand and is also dusted with a little talc.

2. Check the direction of travel

Before installing the tube, please first check whether the tire has a direction of rotation specified by the manufacturer.
This notice is with ours bgm Classic tires in the form of an arrow on a tire flank and indicates the direction of rotation of the tire when driving.
The tube is then inserted to match the direction of rotation of the tire, so that the valve, typical for Vespa, points to the left-hand side in the direction of travel.

3. Assembly

To mount the tire on the rim, the so-called Montagepaste a real help. This means that the tire can be pushed very far onto the rim. This makes screwing the two-part rim much easier.

First, the valve is inserted through the wide half of the rim and then pushed into the tire.
The narrow rim half also has an opening through which the valve is accessible. When inserting it into the tire, make sure that the clearance for the valve is congruent with that in the wide half of the rim.

Our bgm Stainless steel rims have replaceable bolts. During assembly, it is important to ensure that the head of the screw is inserted into the square to prevent rotation.

The five nuts of the rim halves will be crosswise with 16 - 18Nm attached. When attaching, make sure that the hose is not trapped between the rim halves.
Then the Inflate tires to 2 bar and check that the tire and valve are correctly seated in the rim.

Winter tires for scooters Anlas Wintergrip 2

snow

Winter tires for scooters

The 2014 adopted Winter tires are mandatory always causes confusion, because it does not say very clearly if and when Winter tires for scooters are prescribed.
First of all, the most important thing: In general, winter tires will not be required in the future either.

Law §

There is no seasonal requirement for winter tires by the legislator, but only one that is based on the weather conditions on the road.
In the case of “black ice, slippery snow, slush, slippery ice or frost”, winter tires are prescribed according to the legislator.
If you still drive with summer tires you run the risk of an accident and a fine.
However, if the road is in good condition even in December or January, you can safely drive with summer tires.
The crux of it is that of course nobody can know when and where it will freeze or the next change in weather is imminent.
The tire industry has made the formula “from O to O” out of this, in other words, it would like us to equip our vehicles with winter tires from October to Easter.

What are winter tires?

As a layman, you can usually recognize winter tires by their profile. This is usually coarser, often provided with lamellas and has a different rubber compound.
The softer rubber compound remains smoother and now offers significantly better grip, the lamellae interlock with the ground and ensure better vehicle control and a shorter braking distance.

Markings M + S or snowflake?

snowflake icon
Often tires are marked with M + S to convey to the customer that these tires are especially for Match + Schnee is suitable.
Unfortunately, this marking is not protected and now adorns many tires that are anything but suitable for the cold season.
Even pure summer tires can bear this mark. Legally, you are on the safe side with it, but not always in terms of driving physics. The only indicator by which you can recognize a tire that is suitable for winter use is the so-called snowflake symbol (also called a mountain pictogram with a snowflake or Alpine symbol).
The snowflake symbol is the identification for a standardized test with defined criteria. If the tested tire achieves a minimum traction on snow and ice, it receives the snowflake symbol. These tires have the optimal properties for winter weather conditions and accelerate about 10% better on snow and ice than tires without the snowflake symbol.

ANLAS Winter Grip 2

3332267

ANLAS Winter Grip 2 winter tires

Not least because of their own interests, two-wheelers are interested in the safest possible driving characteristics. The new Winter Grip 2 from Anlas is therefore not only suitable because of its properties propagated by the manufacturer, such as strong grip, high cornering safety and short braking distances.

As one of the very few winter scooter tires, it is equipped with the snowflake symbol.
This officially certifies that the tire is very suitable for winter.

On closer inspection, however, this is not at all surprising. The manufacturer, which is certainly still unknown to many Event has, according to the Report by the British online magazine SLUK, already the winter all-rounder ContiMove 365 manufactured. After Conti no longer lists this tire in its delivery program, Anlas is now offering an adequate successor to the Move 2 under its own brand with the Winter Grip 365. As a further developed version, it now has significantly improved rolling resistance, thanks in part to the newly designed carcass structure. In addition to its low price for a real specialist made in Europe, it also offers real added value for the bargain hunter. Not only in terms of purchase but also due to low consumption costs.

CONCLUSION:

In the sum of its overall characteristics, the event is certainly still an insider tip, it offers year-round drivers one thing above all; Security. Both legally and on the street. Buy recommendation!

Winter tires for Vespa

Shock: compulsory winter tires also for scooters Vespa and Co.!

On Friday, the Federal Council approved the Federal Ministry of Transport's submission on mandatory winter tires.

Winter tires have been compulsory since  Monday, 29 of November 2010, in force.
The regulation applies to all motor vehicles, so also for motorcycles and Motor scooter / scooter.
See also NTV.

Is there a penalty without winter tires?

Probably yes, but only if you are active on the scooter. In the event of a violation, there is a risk of an increased fine, because if you drive (and get caught) with summer tires under winter road conditions, you will be asked to pay a fine of 40 euros. In case of obstruction to road traffic caused by the wrong tires, even 80 euros plus one point are due in Flensburg!
If you just park your scooter somewhere on snow and ice with summer tires, you don't have to fear any consequences.

Is it controlled?

What is certain is that the police can distinguish a winter tire from a “summer tire” at first glance based on the profile.

What about insurance coverage?

The comprehensive insurance for your scooter can partially or completely refuse to pay in the event of an accident if the missing M + S tires were the cause of the accident.

The comprehensive insurance for your scooter can partially or completely refuse to pay in the event of an accident if the missing M + S tires were the cause of the accident.

winter tires for your scooter can be found at SCOOTER CENTER we carry, for example:

Here you can find our complete tire selection with a practical selection menu!

Heidenau scooter tires at Scooter Center

Heidenau increases the speed index for Vespa tires

Heidenau scooter tires are faster now! At least on “paper”: Heidenau has the same dimensions for almost all tires 3.50 – 10 the speed index of J (100km / h) M (130km / h) increased.

You can of course still drive these tires on your “slower” scooter, which has a “J-Index” in the vehicle registration document.
The rule here is that a tire with better / higher values (based on the speed and load index) can always replace the prescribed tire.

In the case is faster = better !

These scooter tires are now approved for speeds of up to 130km / h

This applies to the following tires:

Of course, the higher speed limit also applies to our inexpensive tire-rim sets:

The Porter light transporters from Piaggio are true pack mules, in the tradition of the APE load tricycles.
With a payload of over 800kg, they can transport almost as much as they weigh themselves.
Thanks to their small external dimensions, they are very manoeuvrable and space-saving.
Ideal helpers for all transport tasks. However, the high payload also requires special tires.
Porter vehicles require tires with a load index of 91.
This means that each tire has a load capacity of 615kg.

Such a reinforced tire cannot be found at every dealer, especially not as winter tires with M + S identification.
Sceed42 now has a correspondingly reinforced tire for these vehicles in its delivery program.
According to Sceed42, the Portafour tire with the snowflake symbol is a winter all-rounder of the latest generation, specially developed for light trucks such as the Piaggio Porter.

Its technology has been consistently tailored to the conditions that prevail on winter roads today, and the Portafour M + S is a reliable partner in year-round operation. With excellent performance on cold, wet roads and high levels of safety when driving on snow, it also impresses on dry roads and in summer temperatures. Thanks to the 3D lamella technology, improved driving stability can be guaranteed by minimizing block movements.

Reduced rolling resistance and more even abrasion ensure high profitability. Very good aquaplaning properties thanks to an optimized contact area also ensure additional stability and better handling on wet and dry roads.

Modern butyl hoses for Vespa and Lambretta

The new bgm hoses have been specially developed according to our specifications for the needs of classic scooters. The tuning measures and, accordingly, the performance development has skyrocketed here in recent years. There are modern disc brakes and a great chassis with the bgm shock absorbers. When it comes to tires, we scooter drivers mostly benefit from the development of new motorcycle tires, the innovations here are transferred to the small tire sizes. But nothing has changed with the hose for decades. We have now changed that:

NEW: Hose Lambretta BGM8700L and Hose Vespa BGM8700V

Different valve positions for Vespa and Lambretta

Our hoses are specially manufactured for the requirements of the Vespa and Lambretta:

bgm-valve-90-45-degrees

There is a model with a classic 90 ° valve position for Vespa and Co. and a special hose with a perfect 45 ° valve position for Lambretta. The valves are vulcanized in this model-specific position. The butyl content is over 50%, that's what she does extremely airtight and absolutely reliable. The high butyl content makes the hose expensive to manufacture, but in our opinion the result justifies the effort.

Lambretta hose

Special 45 ° valve position. For your security. This prevents the valve from hitting the fork link screw and tearing off sooner or later.

True to detail for the classic look

For the detail lover, we not only paid attention to the safety-relevant, correct angle of the valve position with the valve of the lambretta hose, but also to the metal valve cap with combined valve extractor. Just like it was with the old Lambrettas back then.

High quality and perfect fit

Hoses with a lower butyl content have more flexibility due to a larger rubber content and thus serve a larger range of possible tire sizes (up to 130 / 90-10). A major disadvantage, however, is poor airtightness. In favor of the better product quality, we therefore decided on a high butyl content and thus on a supported tire size of up to 100 / 90-10. For your security!

Despite the perfect fit for the Vespa rims: The Vespa is also known as the mother of all motor scooters. Often copied and never matched. This has one advantage: The bgm Vespa hoses are iCan be used in many other vehicles with ten inch tubular tires.

Assembly tips

When assembling the tires on the bead insert with assembly paste and Dust the inside of the tire with talc. The assembly paste ensures the correct end position of the tire while the talcum minimizes the friction of the tube.
This maximizes the safety and service life of the hose!

Tire fitting paste -ECON- 1 kg article no. 3330132

Tire fitting paste -ECON- 1 kg article no. 3330132

Tire mounting paste not only enables easier mounting of the tire on the rim, it also ensures that the tire slips into its correct end position. If a tire is mounted 'dry', it can happen that it does not lie cleanly on the rim everywhere and therefore runs very unevenly.

Simply apply to the tire wall with a brush.

Resealable can with 1kg content.

Talc -ECON- 500 g shaker article no. 3330131

Talc -ECON- 500 g shaker 3330131

Talcum powder is an indispensable aid when fitting tires that are provided with a tube. If there is no talc, the hoses tend to stick to the tire. This can lead to a premature defect in the valve area, as the flexing movement of the tire means that the tube cannot move independently of the tire.

What do you have to do with scooters:

The scooters are quite a central part of the day at the latest after I've turned my hobby into a job. At the moment I ride my TV 200 down everyday. Otherwise I only drive the Lambretta. My only Vespa never drives and if always only sporadically and then the great battery ignition goes on strike again or the carburetor boils over. And then I cook over.

I've been riding a scooter for 23 years now, starting with a PX 80 in weathered red ... In 1994 I got my first Lambretta Scooter Center (at that time still in the rose garden) bought. For 2.600 DM an SX 200 in the original paint with German papers and fresh TÜV. The original paint was quickly a thing of the past, as was the battery holder that got in the way of the TS1.

There are too many wonderful experiences with and around the scooter. The highlight this year was definitely the ride with one of the original 2-cylinder prototypes at the Open Day at the Rimini Lambretta Center.

<Back Seat cover -BGM PRO Alfatex- Lambretta LI, LI S, SX, TV - black

Why:

Wonderful opportunity to give away a seat cover that was available on the 2-cylinder prototype with 12 "from Innocenti. The idea of commissioning such a bench cover came to us during one of the numerous visits to Vittorio Tessera in the museum. Either as part of the annual Novegro excursion or when collecting parts at Casa Lambretta. In addition to the great look with Alfatex on the side, the cover is also sufficiently lined to take the horror away from longer distances.

One of the two two-cylinder prototypes from Innocenti has been equipped with a bench like this one.

The idea of the side Alfatex from Innocenti was implemented as standard with GP Electronics.

  • Fits almost all Lambretta bench frames

Luggage compartment set -RLC Twin Cylinder SX200- Lambretta LI (Series 3), LIS, SX, TV (Series 3) - GRP - primed

Why:

You can give away another 2-cylinder prototype-specific part as a gift. This time from the version with 10 “. Since it was supposed to give way to the original glove compartment position for an oil tank, there was this beautiful compartment for mounting in the leg shield. Barely visible from the side, it fits perfectly into the line of the Lambretta. Well, one would not have expected otherwise from Innocenti. It is fastened at the bottom with the screw connections of the cascade, at the top (outside of the field of vision) a hole for an M5 screw must be drilled in the leg shield. The compartment comes with a lock, two keys and a gray rubber. Fits for all Series 3 LI; SX, TV, GT, Special and Serveta models.

Lambretta glove compartment RLC
Lambretta overhead locker as it is installed on one of the two existing Lambretta prototypes with a 2-cylinder engine. This scooter underwent a conservation and technical overhaul in 2015 by the Rimini Lambretta Center.

Nice by-product is the reproduction of this glove box. The lower fastening is done via the screw connection of the cascade. An M5 hole must be drilled in the leg shield for the upper screw connection. This screw connection is covered by the glove compartment when installed.

The glove box is made of fiberglass. The scope of delivery includes the lock with two keys and a gray luggage compartment rubber.

Fits to all Series 3 scooters such as LI, SX. TV, GT, Special and Serveta.

The edition is limited.

The tube is the heart of a bike with tubular tires - and this is not only the case in racing.

vespa hose in use

Another reason for their success story is probably the bike concept. Change from Tire and tube is still very easy with the classic Vespa thanks to the two-part rim and can be done with the minimum number of tools. With modern bikes, you should leave the fitting of the tires on the rim to a professional with suitable tire fitting tools.

Tire change on the Vespa

No matter how easy it is to change tires on a Vespa, conscientious assembly is essential. We recommend the SThe hose must be replaced every time the tire is changed. Anyone who has ever had their front tire blown while driving knows what we mean.

Vespa Raid Maroc 2014: The toughest Vespa race in the world!

The Vespa Raid Morocco took place for the third time this year. A six day race over mountains and across the desert. But always over winding slopes and in slalom through football-sized boulders and similar obstacles.

In addition to the absolute physical fitness that the drivers must demonstrate, the average speed achieved is less important than the navigation. Because the full number of points is only awarded if you successfully pass through all checkpoints.

Sticky on indestructible bgm PRO stainless steel rims through the desert

Despite all the rivalry between the teams, the atmosphere is characterized by fair play and great willingness to help each other. The greatest fight takes place against the adversities of nature and not against the other racing drivers.
Ferran, one of the organizers, has given Sticky a pink Vespa PX so that he can expand his broad portfolio of racetracks. The Vespa PX is well prepared for the type of race and has stood the test of time in three desert racing seasons. Including the 2011 Pan-Africa Rally, which is the inspiration for the Morocco Rally organizers.

I used the BGM rim on the front wheel for 5 days and on the rear for the last two days, Initially I worried that the rear tire might spin on the smooth rim and rip the valve out when running at low pressures, but it never did . On day 6 I rode to the checkpoint with a deflating front tire on a BGM rim, but despite hitting some big rocks the rim was still fine when I changed the tube. The lip on the outer edge of the rim is much thicker and stronger than standard. Changing tires and tubes with these stainless split rims is a lot easier than with loose paint and rusty steel or with tubeless wheels. If the BGM rims prove reliable in the long term then you'd expect every tire change to be this easy. " Sticky

Despite health problems (which could also have had an impact on his passion for top decking), he tears down up to 200 km a day on the Vespa.

Straight shock absorbers, Rims and tires as well as the fragile motor housings are constantly in danger of being damaged or completely destroyed. Here in the picture you can see an original black standard rim not withstanding the loads:

On day 5 the time has come and Sticky is out on mixed terrain with a punctured tire and a broken GPS mount. The GPS mount is replaced by Gaffertape and the original Piaggio Vespa rim is replaced by the bgm PRO stainless steel rim replaced. The right decision! Not only stable but also beautiful, the new bgm PRO stainless steel rim - who needs chrome rims?
