ESC scooter race Cheb 2020

The ESC - European Scooter Challenge scooter races

The Scooter Center supports motorsport and also the ESC - the European Scooter Challenge. As the name suggests, it is a circuit racing series with classic scooters made of sheet metal, predominantly Vespa and Lambretta. The first circuit races were held in Austria and Germany as early as the XNUMXs.

The main goal of the ESC is to offer a broad platform for scooter racing enthusiasts with all demands.

The various racing classes, which cover beginners to professionals and women, are based on these ideas.
In particular, the one-size-fits-all classes are to be emphasized here, in which real top-class motorsport can be realized with low maintenance costs and costs.

ESC race report - Cheb Challenge 2020 - Kartarena Cheb (CZ) - 01.08.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX

After the year 2020 had hardly offered any opportunities for sporting activities on old 2-stroke scooters, the time had finally come on August 01.08.2020st, XNUMX!

The first race of the European Scooter Challenge of 2020 could take place. The kart arena in Cheb in the Czech Republic opened its doors and over 40 Vespa racers came out

  • Germany,
  • Österreich,
  • France
  • and Poland

to finally let the asphalt glow again.

Heat battle of Cheb

With temperatures of over 30 ° C and bright sunshine, that was an easy exercise for the whole weekend. Those who arrived on Thursday or Friday could use the time to get hold of the last shady spots in the paddock and to extensively test the racing scooter on the track.

race day

On Saturday the time had come. Race Day! The start was in 5 classes, including 3 “one-size-fits-all” classes, two for Smallframes, one for Largeframe, where the scooters with uniform engine components must be equipped to enable the same conditions and exciting duels as possible.

The smallfames were particularly exciting. 17 starters competed for places on the podium in the small one-size-fits-all class K5. Including Vespa legend Stoffy Maier and newcomers Valentino Randazzo. The old master and the young daredevil offered gripping duels with daring driving maneuvers at the head of the field. Shortly before the end of the race, however, the two leaders were involved in a crash and so victory began Markus Moderer, who drew attention to himself with fast lap times. Valentino saved himself to 3rd place, 2nd place went to Felix Richter.

The second thrilling duel of the day was the faster one Smallframe Unit class K4 between Achim Wolf and Robert Leibfarth. The latter was able to secure pole position in qualifying. With a rocket start, however, Achim sat directly at the head of the field. After a few duels at the front, Robert was able to squeeze past the leader with a hard braking maneuver and drive home the race. The podium of the K4 was finally completed by Benedigt Neuberger, who only crossed the finish line a blink of an eye earlier than his colleague Albert Heigold.

The other racing classes also showed exciting racing on this wonderful racing day. Congratulations to everyone on the podium.

New starters welcome!

The ESC was also able to welcome three new starters this weekend. The newcomers were warmly welcomed into the group of drivers and - like every new participant in the ESC - were exempted from the entry fee in their first race.

If you are now in the mood for scooter racing: there will be 2 more ESC races this year. The ESC Polish GP on 29.08.20/26.09.20/XNUMX in Zielona Góra (PL) and the "KR automation" race at the Harzring on XNUMX/XNUMX/XNUMX. Registration and login under www.eurochallenge.de

PMT Tires scooter tires for scooter racing

Made in Italy: PMT Tires

The Italian tire manufacturer PMT (Pauselli Model Tires) has been around since 1990. Originally, the company produced tires for RC cars and the mini-bike racing series popular in Italy. Since then they have also made tires for motorcycles and above all Racing tires for scooters develop, they quickly secured a top spot among the racing drivers' favorite tires. the PMT tires are available in perfect mixtures for the various soil, weather and temperature conditions.

PMT Tires

PMT Tires Rain & Intermediate

Slick, mix: hard

The slick with a hard compound is ideally suited for routes with high asphalt temperatures and heavy use from many alternating curves and braking maneuvers. The hard mixture is the most abrasion-resistant and can therefore be used very well in endurance / long-distance races. The warm-up phase for the optimum operating temperature (~ 80 ° C) is significantly longer with this mixture than with the "medium" or "soft" mixture.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Slick, mix: medium

The medium bridges the gap between the hard and persistent as well as the extremely well adhering but also quickly wearing soft mixture. The medium thus covers a very large area of application. Its optimal operating temperature is ~ 75 ° C and, like the hard mixture, requires a longer break-in period than the soft mixture to get up to temperature.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Slick, mix: soft

The soft PMT mixture offers full grip even at lower temperatures. Accordingly, it wears out quickly at higher temperatures and then no longer offers its full grip level. In return, it very quickly reaches its optimal operating temperature of 70 ° C.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Slick, rain

With the rain slick PMT offers a new interpretation of an intermediate. An intermediate with a slick profile was created here, based on the rubber compound of the pure rain tire. Ideal for changeable weather with equal proportions of wet and dry sections of the route.
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Rain racing

The rain tire from PMT plays in the highest league of rain experts for the circuit.
Whoever has mounted this tire needs a good excuse if it did not work out with a good placement ...
The recommended air pressure for the front is 1.2-1.3 bar and the rear between 1.4-1.9 bar.

Drag Race

PMT's drag race tires are ideal for all quartermile engines.
No grip is lost here and all of the power is transferred to the asphalt without slipping.
But that also means that there is no mercy for clutch or transmission ...

Big VRA Cup Final 2019 in Jesolo

The Scooter Center / bgm sponsors the Vespa Racing Austia Cup. In sensational, late summer weather, the grand finale of the VRA Cup 2019, on the beautiful Pista Azzurra in Jesolo, on the northern Adriatic Sea. The track, which was built in 1962, has a decades-old racing tradition and has seen many championship and world championship decisions. Therefore, it was an extreme honor for us to be able to host our Cup Final 2019 on this traditional floor.

The last two races of this season were also on Excitement can hardly be surpassed.

Final after a long season

After a long season, Christian Rapf from the & is Racing Team had traveled 12 points behind the Italian Parmakit works driver Paolo Birtele to the Cup final in Jesolo - Italy and nobody expected that he would win the 2019 season crown for the young Italian in the Scooter GP class could still dispute. After a lightning start in the first run, Christian Rapf was able to keep the lead for a few laps, whereby the two drivers were in a league of their own. However, Birtele was able to take advantage of a tiny inattention on the part of the Upper Austrian, and thus in the end again scored 25 points for himself. At 15 p.m., the 00th and last race of the Scooter GP class was on the program. The points deficit had increased to 10 points due to the victory in the first run and the fastest qualifying time of Birtele, but the number 18 started the showdown on the Pista Azzurra with maximum motivation. After another great start, Christian Rapf did not give up the lead for 241 laps …… ..and then …… yes then he was rewarded with the luck of the capable, because Birtele could not finish the race with a technical defect. With a little luck, but thanks to extremely consistent performance, the 5 championship title went well-deserved to Christian Rapf from the & is Racing Team, for which the Vespa Racing Austria event team would like to congratulate them warmly.

After the title in the Marken Cup of our main sponsor PARMAKIT in 2018, which was still very close to Christoph STOFFI Maier in Upper Austria, the big cup final in 2019 finally happened and Kevin Höfler from the SFR team won the championship with a total of 6 race wins and 32 points ahead, decide for yourself. Christoph Maier from the Stoffi's Garage team and Maiko Jandl from the JLP team follow on the seats. With up to 20 starters from Austria, Italy and Hungary, the TROFEO PARMAKIT CHALLENGER 2019 was by far the strongest class in the VRA Cup and thanks to the extremely balanced engine performance, the most exciting duels took place here, regardless of whether it was about victory, the midfield or the end of the field goes. In this class, the focus is simply on driving skills!

Scooter GP Ltd. class

In the 2019 Scooter GP Ltd. Herbert Siegl secured his place on the top step of the podium, second place went to Günter Sedlacek, followed by Julian Köllner.

Street racer class

The championship of the street racer class again went to Christian Fleis, followed by Christoph Carniel and Hubert Leitgeb on the places.

Last but not least, apart from our main sponsor Parmakit, we would especially like to say a big thank you to the Beer, Fix it Easy and Michelin nursing home. We would also like to thank BGM, Egig Performance, AF Parts, KyTronic, Castrol and Faber! Despite the steadily growing field of starters, it would not be possible to run a racing series of this size without the support of our partners.

European Scooter Challenge (ESC) 2019

What is the European Scooter Challenge ESC?

The European Scooter Challenge is a circuit racing series with classic sheet metal scooters, mostly Vespas.

The first races took place in Austria and Germany in the 80s.

in the 2000s the scene had its absolute climax and on some days there were over 100 drivers from Germany, Austria, France and Italy at the start.

Different racing classes have been created so that there is something for everyone.

In particular, the one-size-fits-all, such as the K5, with low acquisition costs and low maintenance requirements, are particularly suitable for beginners.

European Scooter Challenge (ESC) 2019

Up to 4 races take place every year.

The Scootentole Challenge in Mirecourt (France), the LTH German GP in Liedolsheim and the Cheb Grand Prix in the Czech Republic are again firmly on the calendar in 2020.

A route and a date for a fourth race are currently being selected.

The routes are GoKart / Supermoto routes. Most with a length of 1.000 - 1.200 and a width of 7 - 8 meters.

Many routes offer sanitary facilities and camping facilities, which gives the whole thing a nice, familiar racetrack feeling, because many arrive two or three days before the race. There is enough time to test the vehicle, train and talk shop together in the evening.

Run & Race 2016, Pomposa, Italy - September 16-18.09.2016, XNUMX

That was last weekend Scooter Center drove to the Adriatic coast for the Run & Race finals of the European Scooter Challenge. Thanks to the participation of the British Scooter Sport Organization (BSSO) and several other international drivers, the spectators are offered a good spectacle on the kart track.

With the Lambretta to the Adriatic

Sounds like a vacation, but the vacation is long gone. We had 3.000 kilometers and a few days of hard work in Bella Italia ahead of us. Our bus was packed with equipment and our best bgm parts for that Run & Race Italy

The journey started on Thursday in Cologne. After 1.000 km from Lake Garda, on Friday we drove the remaining 250 km to Pomposa on the Adriatic Sea with the scooters. So on Friday it is time to leave early and the tour group splits up into a tour guide and an escort vehicle. The tour guide is done by two Race Tour Lambrettas with 28 Polini carburetors and the bgm big box:

  1. Lambretta DL 150 with 225 bgm PRO RaceTour
  2. Lambretta LI 150 1st series 195 bgm PRO RaceTour

Lambretta DL & LI

Tough test drive in the rain and pothole slalom

Test drive in Bella Italia: summer, blue skies and every now and then a stop at the car grill. That's the plan! Half an hour after the start, reality overtakes our wishful thinking. After the motorway tunnel in Verona we drive into the pouring rain. Fortunately, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing - and we had plenty of that with us!

But nothing helps and until shortly before Pomposa we continue on the Autostrada in the rain.
Fortunately, we did not notice the violent storm directly. Several cars in guard rails and trenches, but give an impression of what must have been going on shortly before us.

Ride a scooter in the rain

Despite the capricious weather conditions and potholes, we are quite brisk. The cruising speed with the motors is around 110 km / h (GPS). The new TomTom Vio shows us the way. Both the bgm motors and the bgm chassis keep what is promised and the journey is quick and easy. The bottom line is a great tour that is a lot of fun.

Big Run & Race in Italy

As the rain stops a bit before Pomposa and the thick cloud cover tears up, we luckily do not arrive completely drenched. The welcome from Rimini Lambretta Centers Marco and the organizers of SIR is warm as usual. After the first cups of white wine, we first move into our luxurious bungalow.

Our luxury bungalow

There will be a 'menu' on both evenings. To be honest, we imagined it to be quite different in Italy ... Both evenings will be quite long for Philipp thanks to the super nighters.

The breakfast on Saturday morning is great, unfortunately we don't have much time because the stand needs to be set up and we are excited to see what awaits us. Breakfast by the sea in the best weather.

run-race-italy-2016_-18

Thanks to our routine, setting up our stand is quite easy for us - at least for those who were sober in bed before 5 a.m.
Accompanied by the incessant howling of sophisticated scooter motors, we present our bgm product range throughout the day and have many great conversations with old and new friends from:

  • Italy
  • Switzerland
  • Germany
  • Austria
  • Greece
  • England
  • Cyprus

Our photos from the weekend

RACE - The races

The exciting races take place directly across the street, where fierce battles were held down to the last meter. The Italian teams from CASA Performance and Parmakit dominate the big classes here - LINK bgm TEILE RENNTEAM. Our Austrian friend Stoffi impressively wins the standard class with the Polini engine -> LINK Shop standard class. Michi from the Stoffi team, we hang our camera around - this is what a one-class training session looks like:

RUN - the scooter meeting

Run & Race - there is also a scooter run during the race. The Italian clubs have stands on the grounds of the racetrack and you can buy parts or merchandise, marvel at scooters and talk about petrol everywhere.
The evening events take place on a camping and bungalow park where all participants were accommodated. The announced concert on Saturday is unfortunately canceled, the Open Air Nighter boiled over until the police arrive. The event is spontaneously moved inside and, if the mood is even better, the party will continue until the early hours of the morning.
After an Italian breakfast on Sunday morning, saying goodbye is difficult! But this time the 250 km return journey lies ahead of us in the most beautiful sunshine. For the last part we leave the motorway and take a scenic route through the hinterland and mountains. We reach our base camp on Lake Garda in a good mood. We still had a lot to do here:

  • Photoshoot Kerresinhio Quartet
  • Visit to the piston manufacturer Meteor in Milan
  • Photos & videos

SIR (Scooterclubs Italiani Riuniti - www.scooterclubitaliani.com) a joint Italian meeting for the first time. the 1st national Run of SIR so to say.

A joint coach is chartered for the drivers of the BSSO and the transport of the racing scooters is also organized and takes place via three central locations in England.

SATURDAY

The ESC finale, that's all you have to say !?

All lenses have been redesigned and the fit has been optimized.

The disc at position two was given a defined curvature in a specially designed radius so that a clean separation behavior is achieved under every load condition when the clutch is operated.

The steel disks are subject to series testing, during which we always keep an eye on the concentricity and the planar quality, as well as the material quality and hardness. All steel disks are here in the 10hrc range.

Except for the optimization of the steel discs, nothing changes in the proven and stable concept of the Superstrong clutch for Vespa PX, T5, Sprint, Rally etc.

dean orton lambretta scooter center

Bon voyage - Dean visits this Scooter Center with the BSG Corse Lambretta

Dean Orton, the founder of Rimini Lambretta Center visited us in Scooter Center. On his way from Rimini via the Venlo Scooter Run to the ESC race at the Harz Ring, he stopped by for a few days. Dean use the trip to the BSG Corse engine to test its suitability for everyday use and travel. In doing so, it was anything but sparing the engine.

BSG Corse Lambretta test drive

dean orton lambretta

The test drive should be as real as possible, so Dean just packed his mod stuff and also:

  • another exhaust to test
  • all sorts of tools just in case
  • Camping equipment
  • and what else mod needs

Then he chased the Lambretta through the streets. From Rimini in Italy over the Alps to Austria and over Germany to Venlo in Holland. The way home then takes him back via Germany, past us and then on to the ESC race at the Harzring.

130km / h cruising speed with reduced 50PS

He reels this distance relatively relaxed at a constant cruising speed of 130km / h. And that with sufficient reserves to be able to overtake at 150km / h. Considerable when you consider the very short gear ratio of only 4,9. With this powerful motor, other speeds can also be achieved.

The CNC manufactured 305cc cylinder is throttled to approx. 50PS via the programmable ignition. Unthrottled, the engine already produced 63PS on the dynamometer at the Rimini Lambretta Center.

ESC roller race on the Harz-Ring

A European Scooter Challenge race will take place on the Harz-Ring this weekend. Dean meets the Casa Lambretta Racing Team here. The first tests and preparations for the race will take place on Friday. The Casa Lambretta racing scooters are equipped with the new parts of the Casa Lambretta Performance parts and some bgm PRO parts. We have the Casa team with the complete bgm PRO Lambretta chassis, the bgm PRO Lambretta silent blocks and the bgm PRO Superstrong Lambretta clutch equipped.

Our first time!

Even if we've known each other for ages and that Scooter Center Just as the Rimini Lambretta Center was founded around the same time, we already met at various events across Europe, but this year we managed to visit each other for the first time.

dean orton lambretta dean orton lambretta

In April we went to the Open Day and had a great time there in this brilliant Lambretta shop with our Italian friends, great Italian food and of course many great and unique legendary Lambretta models such as the Lambretta two-cylinder prototype and the BSG 305 Lambretta.

Here is the video from the Corso, Philipp on the BSG Lambretta

On Monday So it was finally time, it was an honor for us Dean im Scooter Center to welcome. We loved every second and there were lots of stories old and new to share and it was very fun. After a few “business talks” we had dinner together and it got very late. Dean praises ours Scooter Center Generation XI Smallframe Vespa the most beautiful object in the universe - just one breath later our bgm demonstrator Lambretta than that ugliest Lambretta in the world to brand. Mhhhh…. Since we were already confronted with this opinion at the Riva del Garda Customshow 2013, there had to be some truth to it. So we had to do something about it. So we decided to make the Lambretta available to him and to adapt the optics to the perfect mechanics.

dean orton on a lambretta
Tuesday Dean tests the Lambretta on the streets of the beautiful Rhineland and came right on time for the traditional afternoon tea to discuss some new Lambretta products.

On Thursday Dean actually wanted to look at our order process. Unfortunately, we got the glorious idea to test his scooter and both exhaust systems on the test bench. The diagrams of our P4 dynamometer almost coincide with the diagrams driven in Rimini. Time flew by and after dinner Dean was already on the way to the Harz-Ring.

Many greetings to the entire Rimini Lambretta Center team and to Vittorio with his Casa Lambretta Racing Team - we keep our fingers crossed for the race

ASCC - innovative and modern scooter racing series in Austria

The ASCC relies on trying out known and new products during the training phases. For example, it is possible to borrow and try out chassis. Many racing drivers then also drive these products in their street scooters and recommend them to friends and acquaintances.

The ASCC organization team spared no expense and effort and invested a lot for the 2015 season! So they have their own timekeeping and from race day # 2 in Greinbach on April 25.4th. all races are documented via MyLaps live timing. This is the next generation of timekeeping with a live app on smartphones and tablets, live timing on the web and on on-site monitors, as well as the option for drivers to have various information played back on their display. Race day 1: Premiere in Tulln - a complete success

On April 11.4.2015th, XNUMX the time had finally come: the first race day of the new season was about to begin. And with him 23 racing scooter drivers who made it before several thousand spectators and fans at bike in Tulln could not wait to finally compete in the first race in 2015. In addition, a motorcycle trade fair (the largest in Austria for 2015) is a great opportunity to present the ASCC, the teams and yourself to an interested audience. And so it happened…

... that was already in qualifying on Saturday morning Large audience interest. The weather just right. The drivers are fully motivated. And the surprise perfect: the newcomer Lukas Schossmann from the sQooter.com team took pole position with a lap time of 22,8 seconds. Starting place 2 went to Thomas Lukaseder from GP-One and in third place went to the overall winner 2014, Thomas Prasch from the Horny-Hornets.

At 14 p.m. the starting gun was fired for race 1, which, like almost all ASCC races, lasted 15min + 2 laps. The track turned out to be not too fast, rather narrow and, above all, very selective. Race number 1 was characterized by many crashes and failures, most of which ended with minor problems. Surprise driver Lukas Schossmann got through without any problems and celebrated his first victory. Second place went to Thomas Prasch and third went to Christoph Lafer. Organizer Ron said: “We knew beforehand that it would be tight and short. From then on it was driven very fairly. "

In race 2 there were even more spectators at the edge of the track. They got great racing action and exciting duels again. There were tight times, changes in leadership, lapping. The drivers agreed: “Tulln was awesome. Cool with the crowd. ”. At the end of race 2 Schossmann again prevailed with his bgm PRO Vespa chassis, ahead of Prasch and Kirchhofer.

ASCC Vespa Racing Austria Austria

Race day 2: Greinbach All or nothing!

The drivers of the ASCC agree on this: on the racetrack of the PS Racing Center in Greinbach there is only one motto: all or nothing! Anyone who does not fully pull through the long, high-speed curve (over 100km / h), who is afraid of the bumps at the end of this curve and who does not apply various load changes in the infield perfectly, has no chance to ride up front here.

And that's exactly how it was on April 25.4.2015, 2 at race day # 3 of the current season: only the most fearless and experienced racers were involved for the podium places. After local hero Gerhard Konrad from the HG racing team had to end the day prematurely (cylinder damage during training), the way was free for the 3 best of the season, Lukas Schossman, Thomas Prasch and Rainer Kirchhofer. It was surprising that Christoph Lafer from the VorResoSchalter team kept putting the first 2 under pressure and even crossed the finish line third in race XNUMX.

The most exciting scenes of the day were delivered by Schossmann and Prasch, who matched each other for a few laps for first place in run 1. Schossmann lost his pole position right at the start - the reason was a badly adjusted clutch - but was still able to win the race, ahead of Prasch and Kirchhofer. Also in run 1 Schossmann got the full 2 points with the bgm shock absorbers, again ahead of Prasch and this time Christoph Lafer in 25rd place.

Vespa Raid Maroc 2014: The toughest Vespa race in the world!

The Vespa Raid Morocco took place for the third time this year. A six day race over mountains and across the desert. But always over winding slopes and in slalom through football-sized boulders and similar obstacles.

In addition to the absolute physical fitness that the drivers must demonstrate, the average speed achieved is less important than the navigation. Because the full number of points is only awarded if you successfully pass through all checkpoints.

Sticky on indestructible bgm PRO stainless steel rims through the desert

Despite all the rivalry between the teams, the atmosphere is characterized by fair play and great willingness to help each other. The greatest fight takes place against the adversities of nature and not against the other racing drivers.
Ferran, one of the organizers, has given Sticky a pink Vespa PX so that he can expand his broad portfolio of racetracks. The Vespa PX is well prepared for the type of race and has stood the test of time in three desert racing seasons. Including the 2011 Pan-Africa Rally, which is the inspiration for the Morocco Rally organizers.

I used the BGM rim on the front wheel for 5 days and on the rear for the last two days, Initially I worried that the rear tire might spin on the smooth rim and rip the valve out when running at low pressures, but it never did . On day 6 I rode to the checkpoint with a deflating front tire on a BGM rim, but despite hitting some big rocks the rim was still fine when I changed the tube. The lip on the outer edge of the rim is much thicker and stronger than standard. Changing tires and tubes with these stainless split rims is a lot easier than with loose paint and rusty steel or with tubeless wheels. If the BGM rims prove reliable in the long term then you'd expect every tire change to be this easy. " Sticky

Despite health problems (which could also have had an impact on his passion for top decking), he tears down up to 200 km a day on the Vespa.

Straight shock absorbers, Rims and tires as well as the fragile motor housings are constantly in danger of being damaged or completely destroyed. Here in the picture you can see an original black standard rim not withstanding the loads:
