Ready-to-install coupling for your Wideframe Vespa

The bgm PRO coupling is delivered ready for installation. The scope of delivery includes

  1. the assembled coupling,
  2. a new lock washer,
  3. Clutch cover gasket and
  4. Crescent wedge

We also recommend the same Pressure plate and the separating mushroom to replace, available here in a practical set!

The Superstrong GS coupling replaces the serial coupling of the GS / SS models 1: 1 and can usually * be used without further modifications. The clutch is available with 22 teeth (like original) or with 23 teeth (longer stocky). Helical teeth for use with the standard 67-tooth primary gear.

The bgm SUPERSTRONG 2.0 Ultralube coupling combines:

  • extreme durability,
  • absolute reliability and
  • easy operation

It is the foundation of any solid Vespa engine tuning. The CNC-manufactured clutch basket has excellent concentricity and extremely high torsional rigidity. The Vespa clutch thus offers perfect coupling behavior with a clearly defined grinding point and clean separation of the clutch linings.

ULTRALUBE

The latest generation of Superstrong clutches now has an innovative new technology: Ultralube.
Ultralube pumps (through precisely defined bores and centrifugal force) transmission oil both into the highly stressed hub profile (between clutch basket and clutch hub) and onto the clutch linings themselves.
This in the Vespa area unique technology makes the legendary Superstrong 2.0 clutch even more stable than it already is. A clutch designed to last.

PERFORMANCE

The ready-to-install clutch is designed for a power range up to approx. 20PS / 22Nm by means of the mounted clutch springs. Reinforced springs (sold separately, bgm PRO XXL Reinforced clutch spring) expand the performance range of the clutch to over 40 hp. It is still easy to operate.

DELIVERY

The scope of delivery includes the complete ready-to-install clutch with bgm PRO Cosa clutch facings and ten BGM PRO XL springs. A new O-ring for the clutch cover and a new crescent wedge are also included.

RECOMMENDATION

We also recommend a low-alloy gear oil of classes API GL3 / GL4 for high-performance engines in order to prevent the clutch from slipping even under extreme loads. This also applies to our bgm Superstrong couplings. The old engine oil specification SAE30 corresponds to today's transmission oil specification SAE 85W / 90. We recommend this as a lubricant bgm PRO Street gear oil (BGM2025, corresponds to specification API GL-3).

Vespa & Lambretta Smallframe Tube 3.00 x 10 bgm PRO

With the new bgm PRO hoses, we decided in favor of one better quality and higher security for a very high buty content and therefore for a own tube size for tires up to 3.00-10 and 90 / 90-10 = Vespa & Lambretta Smallframe .

Other hoses with a lower butyl content have more flexibility due to a higher rubber content. This allows you to serve a larger range of possible tire sizes (up to 130 / 90-10), but the major disadvantage is poorer airtightness and puncture resistance.

 

Our bgm PRO hoses are made according to our specifications especially for the needs of Vespa and Lambretta scooters manufactured. Of the Butyl content is over 55%, that makes them extremely airtight and absolutely reliable. The high butyl content makes the hose more expensive to produce, but the result justifies the effort! Nevertheless, we offer this high-quality hose at a great price:

PERFECT SIZE

The bgm PRO Simmerrings have the perfect dimensions that guarantee easy installation, optimal function and a long service life. The large shaft seal on the clutch side, for example on old Vespas, has bgm PRO over a height of 7 mm, instead of the usual ones from other manufacturers 6,5 mm.
This is how the bgm PRO Simmer ring on the original factory information from Piaggio. If you have ever taken apart an old and original Vespa engine, you may have noticed that a large one comes from the factory Shaft seal was installed with a height of 7mm.

FLOATING CRANKSHAFT

In old engines, the crankshaft bearings are 'floating'. This means that the bearing is not fixed and it can be moved axially (horizontally laterally) in the motor housing. This shift takes place, for example, under load due to the axial force of the helically toothed primary drive. If the crankshaft shifts too much, this can of course have an effect on the ignition and also on the function of the clutch. The aim should therefore be to have as little unnecessary play as possible.

The stop and thus the play of this floating bearing are only determined by the shaft sealing rings in the Vespa engines. The tolerances in the old motors are large and, for example, we also use thicker housing seals today, so 7mm Simmerrings make sense!

WHY FKM / VITON®

The material is FKM (fluorocarbon rubber) extremely resistant to

  • Heat
  • Friction and
  • Fuel type
  • ethanol

Even super petrol fuel E5 in Germany currently has up to 5% ethanol admixture, with E10 even up to 10%, and the trend is rising. And did you know that this can vary from country to country? Possibly. Have you ever noticed in France, for example, that your engine runs differently? In other countries, the ethanol / alcohol content can be significantly higher.

A conventional shaft sealing ring cannot withstand this increasing ethanol admixture and can, for example, swell or soften on contact with fuels containing ethanol.
The bgm PRO In contrast, FKM / Viton® shaft seals offer one permanent protection. In addition, our Simmering with Viton® is compared to the conventional (blue) NBR shaft seals twice as temperature resistant. Further advantages of these modern shaft seals:

  • extremely gas impermeable
  • and very resistant to aging

 

SUITABLE FOR E10?

OK, so our Simmerrings from bgm have

  1. optimal dimensions and
  2. most modern materials

but for what are they now suitable?

A, with bgm PRO FKM / Viton® shaft sealing rings, equipped motor can also be used in motors with E10 fuel (10% alcohol) operate.

DOUBLE SAFE

The bgm PRO Shaft sealing rings offer a double seal as an additional feature:

All shaft seals that seal to the outside, to the atmosphere, have a so-called Dust lip. This is positioned and held in front of the actual sealing lip

This further increases the very good stability.

CONCLUSION

The bgm PRO Shaft sealing ring set improves the installation clearance and, thanks to the excellent modern materials FKM / Viton®, offers an extremely long service life, combined with perfect fuel compatibility: it is even E10-resistant! WHY SHAFT SEAL MADE FROM FKM / VITON®

The material FKM (fluorocarbon rubber) is extremely heat, friction and fuel / ethanol resistant. Current premium fuel in Germany already contains an admixture of up to 5% ethanol per se.

In other countries the ethanol / alcohol content is even higher. Conventional Simmerrings / shaft seals can swell or soften when they come into contact with fuels containing ethanol.

The bgm PRO SC Competition shock absorber is a further development of the successful BGM PRO F16 Sport series. Visually, the Competition series differs through the external expansion tank. This allows a larger compensation volume compared to the sports damper better responsiveness. At the same time the effective adjustment range of the damping has been increased.

AREA OF APPLICATION Sport & Comfort

Compared to the sport damper, the competition damper has a different basic set-up. This makes it very suitable for use with stiff sport springs such as the new bgm PRO spring.

The setting of rebound and compression levels also counteract the concept-typical brake nod, but also effectively counteract the rapid rebound on short bumps. This means that the competition damper offers a lot of reserves even in powerful vehicles. The wide range of chassis tuning naturally also enables use with a standard spring, which means that comfortable driving is still possible with a soft damper adjustment.

 

INSTALLATION & OPTICS

Thanks to the optimized installation dimension of 165mm, the damper also fits all 8-inch models without any problems, without preloading the spring or changing the angle of the swing arm. When installed, the external expansion tank is largely covered by the fender, which means that the original look of the front of the vehicle is retained. As with the F16 Sport series, the damper body is made of hard anodized aluminum. The damper is available in black and silver.

The first sample of the ignition base plates was presented at our stand at the Eurolambretta'07 in Neckarsulm. The base plate of our ignitions is based on the electronic ignition that was introduced in 1970 with the Lambretta dl 200 electronic. This Innocenti stator plate was later “adapted” by Piaggio for the Vespa. This type of ignition is probably the most widespread model.

In direct comparison, the bgm PRO ignition base plate gives an extreme stable spark and one thanks to the optimized number of turns and cabling maximum light output.

Vespa GTS variomatic test

With the Piaggio series variator, the engine runs into the limiter much earlier. In terms of the speed axis, the power is maintained significantly longer, which is noticeable in a higher top speed.

Compared to the Polini set, the bgm Vario does not work at an artificially increased speed level to catch an aha effect. The Polini Vario unfortunately buys its (too) high speed level with a poorer efficiency.

Maintaining the same acceleration speed as with the series engine means that our bgm Vario-Kit means that the engine is not subjected to higher loads and that the power output is pleasantly linear. We have our own brand bgm, tried and tested a thousand times bgm PRO ignition base plate revised and even better did. Particular attention was paid to the very high quality of the bobbins and the pickup.
In addition, the cabling was converted to textile-sheathed silicone lines. A special gimmick is the cord already attached to the cable branch for easy pulling of the cable harness through the cable duct in the motor housing. The base plate now also has a degree of precise scaling for easier setting.

Compared to a conventional electronic ignition, the BGM Pro HP V2.5 ignition base plate has specially combined coil windings.
This significantly improves the efficiency of the alternator and offers a high light output of 120W.

In contrast to a Vespa PX ignition base plate, the BGM Pro HP has one longer and differently laid cable branch so that the ignition base plate can also be perfectly mounted on older vehicles. CONVERSION TO ELECTRONIC IGNITION

When converting from a contact ignition to this base plate, another fan wheel, a voltage regulator and a CDI must be used.
A possibly standard old voltage regulator, like the series ignition coil, is no longer required.
With the BGM voltage regulator BGM6690, a battery (12 volt battery required) can optionally be charged while driving. The old wiring harness can still be used, but the previously individual circuits must be combined here, as the voltage regulator only offers one outlet to the complete power supply. It is easier to convert to one of our conversion wiring harnesses (e.g. 9077011).

PLEASE NOTE
The alignment of the crankshaft in the engine housing, and thus also the position of the pole wheel, is the same as the old one Largeframe Engines (recognizable by the same-sized crankshaft bearings with 25x62x12mm) are significantly more variable than, for example, the later PX engines.

The crankshaft bearings are not fixed in the engine housing by a circlip, but simply sit with a slight interference fit in the housing. Various tolerances (e.g. the width of the shaft sealing rings, worn bearing seats, orientation of the cone on the crankshaft) can lead to significant deviations from the originally intended positioning of the shaft in the crankcase. A prerequisite for a correctly working ignition is that the pole wheel is perfectly aligned with the ignition base plate. Otherwise the trigger surface in the pole wheel will not run parallel to the pick-up, which can lead to misfiring. If the ignition does not produce a spark, the fault is usually to be found here. For easy rectification, we offer spacer plates (BGM8000S05) for the pickup on the ignition base plate. This allows the correct distance to be restored in a simple manner.
