Day 42 - Markus André Mayer to visit the Scooter Center

Km: 4.865
Countries: 5
Donation amount on the tour approx.: € 45.000

Last Friday Markus stopped by us on his Gentleman Giro. As you have probably already noticed, Markus drives through Europe in a suit with an original 50 cc Vespa and collects donations for the children's cancer foundation in the respective country.
We are happy to be able to support Markus in his mission and are still deeply impressed with how much strength, vigor and selflessness Markus approaches the matter. What actually sounds like a lot of fun is a 25 hour job eight days a week.
In a few weeks, an official interim status of the donations will be announced in Bonn.

We are very excited. But back to the visit to the Gentleman Giro Scooter Center. After lunch together, Alex took a quick and scrutinizing look at the Eleonor (Markus Roller). It didn't pull that well anymore and so the maximum speed we didn't reach slowed us down badly on the trip to lunch. Since Markus is dependent on the purchase of 2-stroke oil due to his luggage, there is always not so good substance as an admixture in the soda. That clogged the inner pipe of the exhaust. After a single burn, Fuffi was able to provide Markus with the full range of services possible. See diagram.
After that, Markus was allowed to sit on the couch to answer questions about how to come up with such travel preparations and plans. You can find the recording of the therapy session with Maryzabel here.

After that it was called Bon Voyage again, Markus!

So, we burned out the inner exhaust pipe so that the number comes off correctly again.

Day 43 on the road - Düren

Seeing Markus again is always a pleasure and sharing a bit of his madness is wonderful, so I signed up the next day to accompany him to his next Vespa meeting.
I think with Platónika I got used to going a little faster than in Colombia, but it was good to regain the calm of the track by following this beautiful V50.
When we arrived at the meeting point, there were almost three times as many Vespas as expected, and after hugs and introductions, everyone drove together to a beautiful beer garden in Düren. An event full of warm people and brotherhood, where I met wonderful people whom I hope to see again soon.
As a result, I fully understood the good nature of Markus Große Reise, where, although he is the one who takes the action, it is the cooperation of everyone that makes the goal come true.
Thanks Markus for strengthening our community.

Tuscany feeling in Scooter Center: M&R Vespa bags, used Vespas and paintings

The exclusive M&R bag is the perfect addition to any Vespa and offers plenty of storage space for this and that. It hugs the shape of the Vespa shield - both outside and inside. It is attached using integrated hooks and can be removed with a handle so that you can take it with you and use it as a shoulder bag. It was designed by the Italian designer Mauro Mulas for many Vespa models in collaboration with an experienced saddler who handcrafts the bags in his workshop in the middle of Tuscany with attention to detail.

In addition to these great bags from Tuscany, you will also find various used Vespa models from Italy to buy at this stand.
A friend of the two exhibits her paintings. Another highlight of our OpenDay!

Crazy Monkey Development

The Crazy Monkey. Rocks is the URL of Crazy Monkey Development! Here, too, the name says it all and we are happy that the crazy monkey is sending his R² & D² team out to the Open Day. This is what the colorful animal world from Gentle Goat to Raging Rhino to Whale presents to us!

McCloudt's Originals

"Because it works!" That is the motto of McCloudts Originals, who present their product range for the care and preparation of vehicles of all kinds at our Open Day. We are happy!

Private parts market

Our SUPERKOLLE was the first to secure a place in the parts market. The warehouse also filled up during the Corona period and we are curious to see which precious items will be presented to us.

Scooterstuff.de

In business for decades and luckily still not professional! Rene (on the right in the picture) from and with www.scooterstuff.de! The offered shirts, prints, stickers are usually only produced in small quantities and offered for sale on runs. Whether in a backpack or sidecar, there is always room for a small selection and no annoying van disturbs the harmonious picture on 'em Run. Usually as merrily tipsy as his customers, Rene, together with the Clubkombina filthy&sly behind them, has been bringing consistent fashion and no trends to the body for years. With us also still working on the turntables for real scooteristit sounds!

Powolotti 2 stroke tuning

And Austria is also sending envoys to the Open Day. We look forward to Michael Powolotti. Among other things, head of Powolotti 2-stroke tuning!

Great LUI

The first international acceptance for the Open Day came from Italy. Tom comes with his Super LUI and presents the project to us. With its motor housing you can plant the inner values of the Li family in your LUI. The picture is at Scooter Center Cup emerged at the Nürburgring. Tom won the regularity rating in the rain with Michelin S1 tires. Dreadful!

Roller shop demonstrator

Our anticipation for the Open Day keeps growing! There are more and more registrations for the private parts market, dealer stands and other great visitors! Among other things, the cover stars of the roller shop catalogs. The red one was built 35 years ago by Angelo Zirri, sold to the scooter shop in 1989 and was and is simply a dream. Marvel at live & in color on September 18th.

Vespa Gentleman Giro

Vespa trip with donations - collection campaign

Vespa Gentleman Giro 2021: 2 months, 50ccm,> 6000km
For kids with cancer!
Markus has planned a lot. Meanwhile, Markus has with the Scooter Center-Motor 2.000km on the clock, these are his experiences from the last few days:

Day 10 Vespa Gentleman Giro

After 1144 km in 4 countries and over 4 Alpine passes (Arlberg, Brenner, Staller Sattel and Felbertauern) I am very, very satisfied, grateful and happy! So far, all clubs give everything! The donation amounts are impressive. Yesterday, too, thanks to the Alp Day Charity, another incredible € 1100 was donated to the Children's Cancer Aid Austria's donation account here in Zell am See. Thank you very much Franz F. Schmalzl !! Thanks also to the Vespa Club Pinzgau, who welcomed me to Franzl's garage yesterday!
I'm also very happy with my “Eleanore” with a real 50ccm (Polini). The engine, completely overhauled by the Scootercenter, worked great even with full throttle all day and with heavy luggage and there was not a single breakdown in the total of approx. 2000 km since installation. Only at the Felbertauertunnel was it classified as an obstacle despite a TopSpeed of 60 and I had to “enjoy” the shuttle transfer while sitting on Eleanore in the back of a VW bus. Eleanore was not offended, however.
Today we are heading towards Liezen to arrive in Graz tomorrow. The next day it goes towards Vienna / Tulln.
Today I ride in overalls for once because I still have to do a few small maintenance work and it may still be raining today.
Wish you a great day and don't forget to stay awesome!

ESC race report - Cheb Challenge 2021 - Kartarena Cheb (CZ) - 10.07.2021/XNUMX/XNUMX

The second run the international "European Scooter Challenge“Took place this year on the popular and technically demanding track in Cheb in the Czech Republic

In order to prepare with as much track time as possible, many participants arrived on Thursday evening and during Friday to set up their camps and do a few quick laps. Unfortunately nothing came of it, because the weather god had other plans and the training, as well as the whole Friday many into the water. Woodstock feeling included.

Just in time for the drivers' briefing on Saturday morning, the sun finally had a reason and caused one or two sunburns among them during the course of the day 46 racers, their teams and the organizers.

In terms of sport, it was then, as usual, hot. Two-stroke sound, thrilling duels, overtaking maneuvers and one or two crashes, all of which had no consequences - at least for the pilots.

Particularly noteworthy was the action in K1 and K4. While Robert Leibfarth (K4 Trofeo Parmakit) was able to leave the field behind in all 3 races after moderate starts, there was a hard fight behind him in K1, which was also on the track. The well-traveled Frenchman Romain Baguet with his technically sophisticated scooter (thumb brake for the rear wheel) dueled with the newly promoted and reigning K5 champion Valentino Randazzo.

The first run was secured by the driver with Italian roots, the second by the French. In the third and decisive run it came to Showdown in the last corner before the checkered flag. The opponents turned side by side into the last corner. Valentino just missed the ideal line and got into an area with strong bumps with his racing machine. That pushed the rider and the machine over the limit, so that unfortunately there was a spectacular crash on the short home straight. The driver is doing well, the scooter will soon be back at the start. Win of the day for Romain Baguet.

Of course the other classes offered too excellent racing and also exotic vehicles like Two-cylinder Lambrettas, mopeds, pit bikes and long-distance racing scooters could be seen on the track.

The results in detail:

K1: 1st Romain Baguet; 2. Valentino Randazzo; 3. Marten Schnitzler

K3: 1. Toni Fattorusso; 2. Marco Abbate; 3. Piotr Skozewski

K4: 1. Robert Leibfarth; 2. Albert Heigold; 3. Marco Büttner

K5: 1. Felix Richter; 2. Thomas Lenkeit; 3. Markus Moderer

K6: 1st Gregor Koller; 2. Matthias Sinkovits; 3. Julian Freiberger

Fastest race lap: Albert Heigold (1: 03.392)

Get into scooter racing now!

If you are now in the mood for scooter racing: there will be 2 more ESC races this year:

  • ESC Polish GP on 24.07.21/XNUMX/XNUMX in Zielona Góra (PL)
  • KR automation “race at the Harzring on 25.09.21

Registration and registration under www.eurochallenge.de

Thanks to helpers and organizers, as well as that Scooter Center for the support.

Vespa is coming home

Markus has now arrived in Italy with his Vespa via Switzerland and Austria

We don't yet know exactly how he spent yesterday evening and night. I am convinced: the European Football Championship final was definitely a great time for a stage stay in Italy on his Vespa Gentleman Giro!

In any case, one can see from his descriptions: he is so far very happy and grateful for the many nice people he meets and donations he can collect. Of course he enjoys his Vespa and the reliable engine. My greatest respect: almost 1.000 km in 9 days fully packed on an old Vespa with 50 cubic meters ...

Every day I meet incredibly great people from the clubs and elsewhere - someone at a bar gave me € 20 for gasoline, the staff at the ferry gave me my fare back, club members feed me, take care of me, refuel Eleanore or organize escorts from the club Club. Vincenzo E Katja Pecoraro gave me a mirror for my safety. Newspapers, radio and TV report and I can hardly keep up with the documentation of the highlights, because my days are full from 8 a.m. to often after midnight and of course I don't want to stare at the phone at the clubs but devote myself to them.

After a great men’s evening with food and beer and an oil change in the BG Crew screwdriver cave, today it was time for a coffee in the Lindt Museum and rain suit shopping. Mine had been on duty every day up to now, but was no longer sealed. So the guys from the BG crew decided to change my clothes. ???!
In the evening, about 30 people from Zurich from the VC Zurich and Vespa Fans Club came to join them and at a relaxed barbecue and despite Wednesday and the somewhat uncomfortable weather, the Swiss collected a whopping 1200 francs in donations ?!
Two great days in Zurich and tomorrow it's on to the Vespa Club Rohrschach!
Thanks to the great organization to the guys! Big cinema !"

Successful start of the tour

Markus reports that the tour got off to a successful start on Saturday. He experienced the first two days like this:

Day 1 Vespa Gentleman Giro

After a nice evening with Vespisti Böblingen, the team from Alvivo and my dear Martina Gödert with good food in the boathouse Böblingen and a night in the hotel, a wonderful event was organized at the Alvivo company headquarters in bright sunshine, we enjoyed the Cafe von der Ape, grilled food Served by volleyball players and good vibes as well as great offers. 420 € were collected on site via patches and stickers and other donations and then a pack of great people on the Vespas accompanied me a long way towards Freiburg im Breisgau, where the VC Freiburg and the scooter friends Südbaden Brewing collective waiting for me. The weather had changed and shortly beforehand I had to go to the terrace of the Hex restaurant in Waldkirch in the rain suit where the landlord insisted on giving me 20 € of fuel. In Freiburg, through patch and sticker sales as well as sausages and generous rounding up, another 600 € came in the donation pot and at 2:30 at night I was able to fall into bed with a great result of more than 1000 € on the first day.

Day 2 Vespa Gentleman Giro

After a good breakfast, Wolle Wide Frame and Olaf Just accompanied me until shortly before Singen! A great ride in mixed weather through the wonderful Black Forest! The engine of SCOOTER CENTER performed exactly like the last 1.200 km without any problems and I was received in proper style by the Vespaclub Singen Hegau and escorted the last few meters to Singen, which attracted the attention of the gentlemanly outfit. A hot grill, cold beer and long and good conversations were waiting for us.

I would like to expressly thank EVERYONE who was there, organized, helped and sent along these 2 days. Of course, all proceeds and donations remain with the clubs, which will transfer them DIRECTLY and without deductions to the German Childhood Cancer Foundation in the coming days.

How does the donation actually work?

> Markus is often asked this question, his answer:

“How does it work with the donations and the trip and so at the Vespa Gentleman Giro and do you pay for my vacation ?!

An important and good question!

Of course, with your donations you will not pay for my trip, my overnight stays or anything else. Thanks to great sponsors, support from my family and also by sleeping on the couch, barbecuing at the clubs, etc., the donations flow 100% directly to the respective children's cancer foundation! "

Where do the donations come from?

Markus explains here in his words:
So, on the one hand, people simply donate directly to the campaign of the children's cancer foundation in your country (for example if the relay of the Vespa Gentleman Giro is handed over to them by another club)
In addition, in order to generate further donations, I have had stickers and patches produced on my own in advance, which I sell together with the club presidents at the events at the clubs. The production costs of 10 € stay with me and 2 € directly with the president of the respective club, who usually sends them to the children's cancer foundation the next day with the total donations of the club.

Clubs and private individuals also donated plaques, pins or other items for sale or auction. These are publicly auctioned during the year and only sent against postage, whereby the payment does not have to be sent to me but directly to the foundation.

It is not possible to give me cash donations and I will not accept any.

Exception: someone specifically and explicitly wants to give me fuel, oil or a meal. But there is a separate Gofundme account or my PayPal.
I hope this post clears up any questions or ambiguities regarding the Gentleman Giro - should anyone still want to know something, please send me a message.

My campaign is 100% transparent and I publish all donations known to me on a daily basis.

So again to take note: Donate 100% Children's Cancer Foundation

Travel costs: 40% sponsors, 30% support for my great family and 30% myself.

This means: 7 months to start, 2 months of travel and another 6 months for the coming year. So everyone can work out what it can cost (cost of living, loss of earnings, insurance, approval, equipment, pre-production of merchandise, postage, website, print material ......)

Vacation is somehow different ”

Paul project

Since 2021 that is Scooter Center official sponsor of the Vespa racing team "Project Paul". On the weekend of July 03rd / 04.07.2021th, XNUMX the team will go to the Scooter Center Cup at the Nürburgring and we keep our fingers crossed for you. We asked Dennis, the team leader from Project Paul, to introduce himself and the team. And Dennis gives us an insight into the genesis of Paul and what is behind the sport.

Hello!
My name is Dennis Krawatzki and I am the team manager of "Paul project".

Even as a child, I spent a lot of time on racetracks and loved the atmosphere. My entry into motorized locomotion was a PX 1992 in 80. I quickly noticed that such a Vespa is great for tuning. The PX 80 was the entry level and soon I was taking part in various quartermile races with my Rally 200.

In 2008 I - with Support from Scooter Center - participated in a circuit race, the 4-hour race on the Cologne exhibition grounds, for the first time. Since then I've been infected with the racing bug!

With friends, we already founded our first team in 2009 (DART Racing), with which we were able to successfully complete a number of races.

In 2015 the decision was made to set up their own team. It was clear to me from the start that this team should only be supported by friends. Since my father was not only at my side with words and deeds, but also helped a lot with the construction of the chassis (welding work), I decided to secure a permanent place for him in my team. From now on, the new vehicle was to have its second name: “PAUL”.

“Project Paul”, the resulting team name, started with a Falc Racing rotary valve engine in the first year. Over time, I worked with my friends and companions on optimizations and planned until we decided on an M200 motor and the corresponding setup.

Over the years we have grown into a friendly and familiar group with “Projekt Paul”, and that across national borders. Friends from the Netherlands and France have joined the team. I am delighted by your enthusiasm for this project, the shining eyes of everyone involved (whether they are helpers with the construction, our graphic designer Yoleila or fans with specially made T-shirts at the racetrack) when Paul comes around the corner and it starts again every time again. That encourages me again and again to get better and to further optimize the vehicle. This is an important partner - besides my friends, who are always thinking about the setup Scooter Center, for which I have also been working part-time since the 90s, i.e. producing special parts. Here, too, a long-term friendship has developed between Ulf, Oli and me who now want to support the “Paul Project”.

That fits in with our team spirit: FRIENDSHIP.

My friends as drivers, supporters and fans are there with heart and soul at every race. Whether at the racetrack or online from home, they are excited about every race! And because we would like to (experience) this in the future, we are very happy about the support from Scooter Center and look forward to spending time together. For this, our entire team would like to thank you, the Scooter Center team, from the bottom of their hearts!
